It is stated that it was 32.95$ and it is now free thus, I would presume it is the paperback version i.e. the real book.

I bought the book based upon recommendations here and have not been disappointed. Yes, it is sometimes very basic if you have been editing with MSP for a while, but I still found some useful tricks and tips.

For a novice with MSP I would say it is a MUST HAVE.

I suppose it's all relative, but IMHO, the book is not "very very basic". It covers basic to intermediate and a little more. The book almost certainly will explain things you have not yet figured out. JaySigel has obviously spent years with "trial and error" - I can't wait that long, so I got the book. And it worked - there were tonnes of things I didn't know or hadn't figured out yet by trial and error.
JaySigel wrote:Not covered is rendering of multiple files, advanced options, such as advantages and disadvantages of using constant versus variable compression, calculating video bit rates to size the rendered file to fit on a DVD with minimal DVD wastage, converting from narrow to wide screen formats, frame rates, HD issues and so forth.
In other words, stuff that isn't actually "video editing" is not always included. Thank you for that, Jay needs to find another book, I think.

I have no hesitation in pointing out that this is very bad advice. My advice is: save yourself 3 years of trial and error and buy the book now. Spend a couple of weeks going through the tutorials, and be a "lot better" at editing than you were a few weeks before.

I highly recommend the book. I bought it, and can now do a lot of things I couldn't and that I never would have figured out on my own.

The book is cool, i love it. Just bought MSP 8, and got the pdf version, of the book. Not sure why peeps would post "oh you posted negative thoughts" and think this is a user to user web forum. User can't be negative? Just a question.. Man, that so so one sided thinking. Closed minds means closed eyes.. tisk tisk..

As for the book, it's a great book, very worth the purchase. As for the software, it's frigging awesome. I havn't been more happy with the purchase. Can't wait to see what Corel does to it..
