Getting Results with Mediastudio Pro 8

Post by ticctech »

Anyone have the book? or download it from the web? Just wondering if it is worth it? I have made a few vid clips with media studio, but nothing fancy. So I would call myself a novice. Any advice?

I downloaded the PDF and project files online, and highly recommend it. It makes learning MSP much easier and quick, even if you already know video editing. It's required reading!

Yes, I have it. As a long time user of MSP (and beta tester), I think it's fantastic and addresses itself to both beginner and experienced professional alike. Buy it!

Actually, I have heard (not checked it out) that there is currently a special offer of a free copy if you buy the full version of MSP8. Alternatively, if you buy the book for 400 bucks, you get a free copy of MSP8 :-) Actually, the book is worth all of that! :-D

A fantastic book. Even if air freight costs alot it's still worth it. No MSP user should be without it.

Getting Results - a disappointment & for novices only.

(I started posting and something happened to it so this may be a partial repeat.) I purchased the book (not the PDF) to help explain the myriad options and strange rendering behavior of MSP8, having used MSP7 for several years. The book is very, very basic and did not explain anything I didn't already know or hadn't figured out by trial and error. A quarter of the book is on Ulead DVD Movie Studio and general movie photography. The section on rendering is called "Order a Pizza," so if you have already used the MSP7 or 8 suite before, there may be little you don't already know and a lot that is not covered in this book. Not covered is rendering of multiple files, advanced options, such as advantages and disadvantages of using constant versus variable compression, calculating video bit rates to size the rendered file to fit on a DVD with minimal DVD wastage, converting from narrow to wide screen formats, frame rates, HD issues and so forth. There is a section titled "Slightly More Advanced Tricks" and discusses color correction, a complicated subject (and affected by the color settings on your monitor, so be careful). The included examples of color correction results are limited by being printed in black and white! But if you want to know just what "smart rendering" does when you are processing a simple, non-HD, AVI to MPEG, only the simplest explanation is given and I have seen no effect whatsoever. The author says of smart rendering indicators on page 42, "To be honest, I have no ideas what these are called."

So, you might want to try MSP8 for yourself, experiment a little, and be patient and buy this book only if you get too frustrated.

I am very critical and so I wouldnt recomment this book if it would not be good, but I recomment it!
Ok, it does not explain everything, but which book does this? I think it explains a lot of details I never found in Uleads manuals. So some time ago I suggested that Ulead should include this book in the package. Even if Ulead would pay very few per book, the author would earn more money and Ulead could sell more products because of better documentation.

Look at Amazon.com for the book. About half price from buying from Ulead. I believe I bought for around $12 - $13 just a couple weeks ago plus shipping.

Edited..

Deleted my original post, as it was off topic, and I had not noticed part of a quote that I included, and strongly disagree with. It is political and this forum or web board is no place for that.

I do have Getting Results with MSP8 and highly recommend it. It is worth way more then it costs..

Real book for free, or download?

Post by evmiller »

Do you get the REAL book free with a purchase, or do you get the download version? Asking because I'm considering buying form amazon while I'm checking out MSP demo.
