right click on menu, customize, choose toolbars and drag/drop the 'save as' icon to your menu bar.
When you customize the menubar, save it as a profile, give it a personal name it will save in your P 12 folder as a .xum for future reference.

Any time you make changes to your EP or attribute bar/menu bar, always save your customizable profile.

Hello there,

I upgraded a few days ago from PI10 to PI12 and I am facing exactly the same problem.

When creating a new UFO project, it doesn't "save as...".

You can enter the filename but once you click on the Save button (after clicking on the Save As... menu item), nothing happens and it doesn't save the file.

This menu item works perfectly in any previous versions (I luckily still have PI10 installed).

Can anybody confirm and maybe offer some help?
It's nearly impossible to reach the support form due to high traffic messages or extremely slow access....

Thanks,

Mike

PS: my current workaround is the following one. I save a new UFO project in PI10 and reopen it in PI12. From there on, I can re-save properly. However, I don't want to be depending on this workaround as I'd like to uninstall PI10 sometime soon.

My copy of PhotoImpact 12 appears to work correctly.
Just to see if we are doing the same thing, are you creating a new image
File | New | New Image
or......
have you opened an existing image and are now trying to save with a different name or in a different format?

If you are opening in existing image, tell us a bit about it, format, file size etc.

Hi Steve,

I don't think it's that what you are saying.

I had similar problem when I first used PI 12. It's part of the customising of the toolbars/menu bars.

The save icon on the menu bar is there but not the other one 'save as' - one has to customise and drag/drop that icon onto the menu bar for it to be there. I think that's what they are saying.....they don't know how to get the save as icon.

Mike, I followed your exact same steps without any problems. I opened PI12 and created a new object. Went to Save As on the menu, the next screen let me type in the file name, then clicked on the save button. I then looked in my files area and the .ufo file was definitely there.

Sorry I can't offer any help but this works okay for me.

Hello all,

Thanks for your suggestions here but it is a nogo unfortunately.

I became so frustrated from this situation that I:

- uninstalled both PI10 and PI12
- rebooted
- cleaned and defragmented my hard drive
- made a system check (all applications work actually just fine including PI10)
- and reinstalled vanilla PI12

but it still won't let me SAVE AS... any kind of NEW projects, no matter which file type I select...

So I reinstalled PI10 and it works yet again fine over there... :?:

SJJ, it's exactly as you describe:
I create a new project via FILE | NEW | NEW IMAGE (I choose as resolution 750x550), then I draw something (or I leave it blank), then click on FILE | SAVE AS... | UFO file type is preselected and I just specify which filename I want to give it.

As soon as I click on the Save button, nothing happens and nothing gets saved.

I use these exact same basic steps with PI10 (or any other applications supporting a Save As... feature) and it works perfectly...

Any other suggestions? I can't believe that I upgrade to a new version which brakes with such a simple file saving feature...

Cheers,

Mike

J had the same problem with PI12.
1. I opened a file and tried to save it under a different type
2. I created a file and tried to save it
3. I opened a file, chanded something and tried to save it under the same name and type

1-3: I could enter the file name and tpye; after pressing SaVE nothing happened.
1-3 I changed the directory for saving the file; the field for the file name could not be entered.

This has happened with the PI11 for some time. After updateing and installing it 4-5 times it worked; but still habe problems with PI11 (Program hangs and kills himself when using the cutter tools).

This is getting very frustrating...

I have uninstalled any single ULead product (including my working PI10 version), cleaned the registry links from any ULead traces, defragged the hard drive, reinstalled PI12 again and it is still not working.

On top of this, I lost my PI10 installer, so now I can't even work with PI10 anymore and have to use the PI12 which doens't save NEW UFO files!!

To make things even more colorful the ULead website is not working correctly due to their recent and very annoying server load errors so I can't even contact their technical support...

HELP!

Mike

Is yours a downloaded version? Maybe you have a corrupted download.

Hallo,
I had some trouble saving files (couldn`t use SAVE or SAVE AS....)
In uleads knoledge base for PI11 I found a sloution which solved my problem.

Knowledge Base

Troubleshooting: Save As problem
User's Avg. Rating: Votes: 3 Viewers: 132

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This fix was provided by a user. Apparently, you'll get this problem if you installed Microsoft's Tweak UI program and set the "Remember previously-used filenames" option from the "Common Dialogs". To fix this, please take note of the outlined procedure to edit a particular registry value:

1. Click "Start -> Run", type "regedit" on the command box then click "Ok" to open the Registry Editor.

2. Go to:
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\comdlg32\NoFileMru"

3. Change the DWORD value from "1" to "0".

4. Close the Registry Editor, restart PhotoImpact and you should be good to go.

Now saving is easy (smile)

Now that's interesting.

Thanks for sharing that with us. Hopefully, it will help the OP also. If it does, I will make sure that we list it on this board as a possible PI fix.

This is interesting indeed :?
I just checked my registry for that entry,"...\comdlg32\NoFileMru" and find that I do not have it. My registry goes up to the Policies. Oh and I do have Tweak UI installed..

It's getting more intriguing by the minute. I don¡¦t have Tweak UI so can¡¦t comment further.

Hurray!!! Unbelievabe but true!
Although I don't have this MS Tweak UI installed, I could still find the registry key and applied the value change!!!

Thank you VERY VERY MUCH for providing the info to this fix, Beil!

I was close to uninstall everything, charge back my money for PI12 and get back to PI10 which was working.

Big thumbs up for this great and useful forum! =)

Cheers,

Mike
