Is UVS 10 Service Pack valid for processors AMD x2 DualCore

Post by fofilou »

I have a processor AMD Athlon x2, and I would know if the Ulead VideoStudio 10 Pack 1 service was also valid for this type of processor? Thank you in advance.

My PC is Acer Aspire E360-YB7V

I believe the answer is a qualified "yes". I have a x2 4400. VS10 does not take both cores up to 100% It also does not take just one core to 100%. There seems to be multiple threads depending upon your choice of output file or encoder -- mpg, avi, etc. It does spread the load between the 2 cores but it is not a 50/50 split in cpu utilization -- the different codecs seem differently balanced. The mpeg encoder is fairly balanced. One core will work harder at times then the other and it is not always the same core. It seems faster with sp1, to me.

I actually like that it does not take both cores up to 100%. I'm always doing something else with video files on a different drive during the encoding process, so it's better not to have both cores tied up for me.

I'm not so sure. I've burned a few projects on my AMD X2 4200+ and I've yet to see any CPU utilization above 70%, with the general average being 45-51% during rendering. I don't multitask when burning a video so I'd prefer to see more CPU usage and shorter rendering times.

I agree, I never see a max -- but I do see both cores working, never just one at 60% and one at idle. This cpu has really shown me how speed limiting sata 150 is. I need to get to sata 300 to see what the cpu can do.

Can I ask, how are you monitoring BOTH CPU cores during a render process? I can monitor CPU cycles while using my computer, but I can't distinguish between cores. Is there a program that allows you to do this? :?:

You can use windows task manager. On the performance page you should see 2 history graphs - one per cpu. If you don't see them, go to view -> cpu history -> one graph per cpu. Personally I use rmclock to set my cpu speeds for AMD's cool and quiet and monitoring utilization . My video editing machine also runs Snapstream BeyondTV so I run it all the time, rmclock allows it to run cooler and speedfan slows the fans down as needed.

rmclock takes some tweaking though, I went through a lot of BSOD's to get it stable.

Thanks! I did not know that about Task Manager.
