I'm testing VS10+ TBYB in HD space. The preferences and project properties are set as per recommendations for HD capture & editing. HC3 is my source of HD footage.
I need to capture a still so I used Save as Still Image button on Video panel. This produced an image which is squeezed horizontally - totally unusable.
Then I found Tools:Save Current Frame as Image which produced correct image.
By "correct" I mean I can put it on the timeline as a title background and smoothly start the clip (first frame of the clip saved as image).
Can someone explain what is Save as Still Image used for, please?
two ways of stills capturing

When you placed the "squeezed" image on your timeline did you put it in an Overlay track? If so, that will sometimes distort your picture. To fix it click on the clip in the timeline, then in the Preview Window, right click on it and choose Keep Aspect Ratio. You can also Fit To Screen the same way.

I didn't use Overlay track. I dropped it on main track at the very begining. Didn't change any default params - Resampling option:Keep aspect ratio.
Interestingly Save as Image can be used only when preview window is set to Clip; Save Current Frame as Image only when preview window is set to Project.
I guess Save as Image has a bug - does not account for non-square pix, which is the case when project is set to 1440x1080 and/or footage is done in 1440x1080.
Anyway it's not a showstopper for me, however an explanation from experienced user would be very appreciated.
EDIT: BTW, Windows reports 1440x1080 for Save as Image and 1980x1080 for Save Current Frame as Image.

Hi
As I see it:-
For Pal
Its to do with the way the video is displayed.
If using 4:3 then the video file is normal 720 x 576
If you use widescreen then the 4:3 frame is stretched to 1024 x 576 but still uses 720 x 576
When you place a video into the timeline it is stretched to fit the video frame.
Not sure about HD but must be similar to widescreen.
By selecting ¡¥Clip¡¦ you save the original un-stretched version 720 x 576
If you use Tool-Save frame¡¦ you are saving the true as viewed version. 1024 x 576
In your case you will be saving larger for HD.
I am not sure of the ntsc sizes, right click each saved image to see the pixel size.
