Burning Time?

Post by KIDOODLES »

I have had sooo many issues with this program and about ready to demand a refund. The latest issue being the "failed to burn disc" After creating a slideshow and going to burn it would take hours and then the problem, it would not burn. Uleads solution to this was to uninstall all other burning software. (not what I wanted to do) but Ok, so I did and was finally able to burn a small video file. Ok, now onto a full dvd file. Right now it is at 9% after 9 NINE hours. This is crazy. I've used many programs and never had a file take this long or have so many problems.
What is wrong?

DivX?

Everybody who uses DivX or Xvid complains about the conversion time. You can try using a 3rd-party conversion program like SUPER (FREE!!!) which might be able to perform the conversion faster.

And, you should be aware that whenever you convert a lossy format, the quality is degraded.

If my guess is correct, and you are working with DivX or some other special format, then Movie Factory may not be the best software for you, but I assume it's tough to get a refund from Ulead since they offer a free "try before you buy" version*. You should check the DivX web sites to see what they recommend.

And I bet you got it off the internet.
If so it will be DivX / Xvid or MPEG4.
These are highly compressed formats and need to be converted beforehand.
Like Doug said - try 'Super' or some other similar conversion tool first.

FYI - AVI is a "wrapper" or "container" format, and it can contain DV, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, or any other compression format.

The more compressed formats seem to cause the most trouble. These formats usually play-back OK on your computer if you have the right codec, but they can cause problems when you try to edit or transcode (convert) them.

You didn't say what the playing-time of your file is, so we are only guessing from the symptoms that it's highly-compressed. If you have an hour of video squeezed-down to fit on a CD... That's very compressed.

AVI/DV (from a digital camcorder) takes 13Gb per hour. 718,000kB works-out to about 3 minutes in that format. MPEG-2 (DVD format) takes about 3GB per hour, depending on the MPEG bitrate. That would work-out to about 15 minutes.

If your file is AVI/DV, then you have a different problem. Maybe a corrupt video file. (Although, it is very rare to have problems with DV files.)
