VideoStudio9 Crashing
VideoStudio 9 is constantly crashing on me. I'm using output from my Sony camcorder in 16:9 format in PAL. I'm downloading by firewire from the camcorder to the hard disk. It's during editing that I'm having the problem. The size of files I'm dealing with at present are 30Gb, but the end product will be 4.7Gb onto DVD - if I can ever get the project that far. I've tried uninstalling VideoStudio and used the advice on Ulead's site to clean up the leftover bits to give me a clean reinstall. I've also installed the patch UVS9Full_Patch1_5in1.exe. I'm using a fairly new Dell Dimension 5150 with 250Gb hard disk, 2.8Ghz Intel D dual processor and 1Gb of DDR2 memory. Please, can anyone help. I'm seriously thinking of changing product.

Hi Barry13 and welcome to the board.
We could probably go on for ages as to why this is happening, god knows I did! The variables in source video, hardware configurations, software configurations already on the computer etc could go on and on.
So! Let me tell you how I handle this problem when it arises.
Before I am going to do editing on the computer I do a defrag of my hard drives to make sure we are all clean and tidy. Prior to that I do a general clean up as well.
Then I go to Start/Run and type "msconfig" without the quotation marks and hit "ok."
I then select the "General" tab and check "selective start up." I then uncheck "Load Start up Items."
Then I re-boot. This results in the computer starting up with almost no unnecessary programs automatically running in the background.
I make sure there are no screen savers or anything that could "spring into life" running as well and NO internet connection.
Then I hit Crtl/Alt/Del and go to the "Processes" tab and go down the list to make sure there is nothing running that is not necessary. For example disabling AVG Anti-virus on start up does not stop it from loading to memory on start up so I have to kill at least three instances of that process that will be running. If you are not sure on a process leave it.
At that point I can use VS9 quite happily all day and no crashes.
I could spend a lot of time finding out what the particular conflict is that causes the crash but I find it quicker to just do all of that and get on with it.
If you still get crashes after that then we have to satrt looking at possible memory or hardware problems on the computer.
Hope that helps.
P.S. After you finish editing don't forget to go back to the start up menu and re-select "Normal Start up" and reboot.

Or you could create a Video Editing Profile once and be done with it.
