Re: Unable to run PI12
Yes!oglitsch wrote:After successfull installation of the download version of PI12 I am unable to run the program. Every attempt to start PI12 results in a crash to desktop..............
It seems to be a problem with the user rights, because when I run PI12 logged in as administrator, it runs perfectly. Beside the admin account I have two users configured on my PC - all three have the same administration rights. With one of the user accounts and the admin account PI12 is working fine, with the other one, which is the main user on this PC, PI12 crashes.
Does anybody know which user setting or right is critical when running PI12? Maybe there is a conflict with another software - I have many applications installed on my computer. I don't want to switch to another user just to be able to work with PI12.
Does anybody have a tip how to solve this problem? ............
Oliver
Use 'Run As' and select the Administrator account. the only drawback is that you will have to give users the Administrators password to do so.

If you do not wish to give out the admin password you can still use it but with third party software.

I guess my last question was invalid.
I will talk to someone on this user right issue later.

Hi Steve,
Thank you for your tip! Yes, this way it works. But this can only be a temporarily work around: This way I cannot start PI12 from the quick start bar and if you want to load or save a picture, you are always in the administrators environment (my pictures, etc.).
For the moment I can live with, but I would highly appreciate a definitve solution from Ulead, all the more I am not the only PI user fighting with this bug...
But thank you very much indeed, Steve, for this helpful tip.
htchien: All my three accounts have admin rights (I am using my PC alone). And thank you too for your endeavour!
Regards,
Oliver

PhotoImpact 12 starts with error message
Hi Oliver
I had the same problem with PhotoImpact12. Every time when I was starting PI12 an error message appears (error with uliblzw.dll).
Here is the solution:
You should delete or move all TIFF-files in your personal \My Folders\My Pictures* directory. PI12 is browsing this directory, every time when the program is starting. When there is a problem with a TIFF-picture the program crashs. Otherwise you could change the path of the "RecentFolder" in the registry.
* For german users: C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Username\Eigene Dateien\Eigene Bilder
Viel Erfolg!

Well, for someone to have this issue, there would have to be faulty tiff files in the root directory. I, for one, have none of my images stored on my system drive, nor in the default path of My Pictures.oglitsch wrote:Hi Lucas
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!
Your tip was the solution for my problem - after deleting all TIF-Files in the root of /my folders/my pictures PI12 runs perfectly now.
Strange enough that nobody from Ulead or othe "professionals" in this board knew that...
Thanks again for your help!!!
Oliver
But now, we know. You could have saved yourself the insult of "professionals". We are just users like yourself who chose to help other, less experienced people, who come here for help. We certainly do NOT need that kind of aggravation.

Heinz,
But after having discussions about why I need more than one user on my computer and why I do not work logged in as administrator, I got angry. I knew that my problem had definitively nothing to do with that!
By the way: None of the three TIF-files I had in this directory were corrupt! The problem is, that PI12 simply doesn't like to find ANY TIF-file in this directory. For me it's a mystery, why PI12 scans directories. If PI Album does it - fine, then it can preload pictures for a quicker display of thumbnails or so, but PI...
Anyway: I'm happy that my problem is solved and I apologise for my last posting.
You are right, this sentence was inappropriate - sorry for that.We certainly do NOT need that kind of aggravation.
