Problem importing VOB file
When importing a vob from my hard drive, I can only see the upper left quardant on the video. The audio is fine and what video I can see is not distorted. I am using the trial version on Dell computer running XP media Center edition. This program seems to be exactly what I need IF I can work this out! Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to the forums..
We need to know just a teenie, tiny bit more to figure this out....
You're importing a VOB, from a DVD, (home made, commercial).
You can only see the upper left quadrant (while importing, before, or after)
You're using the trial version (of VOB Importer Deluxe Suite, DVD Ripper, one of Ulead's programs, if so which one)
Have you tried just copying the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to your harddrive, then importing from there? You're able to play the DVD on a stand-alone player or another PC without problems? Check for smudges, scratches on the DVD surface. If you have a Disc cleaner, clean the disc. If you do clean it, remember do not wipe in circles, start from the center of the disc, wipe to the outside edge in a straight line.

more info
I am using VideoStudio 10 trial version to import football games that were copied to DVD from VHS on a Panasonic ES35 Diga Recorder. The video appears in the preview window with sound, but only the upper left quandrant of the video. I have tried importing the files from the DVD and copying the files to my hard drive and then importing, with the same result.

thanks for your help
haven't tried other disk. but VOB_2 was fine imported from same disk.
Are you familar with PowerDirector 5.0 by Cyberlink? It will open the files fine, but the import time is a lot longer.

VOB import from Panasonic DMR-ES recorders
I'm having the exact same problem I only see the top left quadrant. I've logged a technical support query. I think it may be to do with the fact that a widescreen broadcast is squeezed into the 4:3 format to get around the limitations of composite or RF. If you plugged the VCR into the front S-Video or composite inputs of the DVD recorder it does this. If you check the properties of the VOB file in videostudio you will find that the widescreen broadcast has been compacted (Squeezed) into 4:3 and will appear thin and narrow if viewed at 4:3 on your TV or in Cyberlinks Power DVD. When you view the picture on your widescreen TV it stretches the picture back to 16:9. I read that if you have a component input or use the DV input it will transfer at 16:9 instead of 4:3 from your VCR/satellite/cable box so no squeezing is required. I hope that ulead answer this thread pretty soon since they have not answered my support query.
Good luck

imported VOB only shows top left quadrant of picture
Ignore the last post I've done some more experimentation and I am now only having success with DVD-R disks recorded and finalised on a Panasonic DMR-ES15EB. The problem seems to be with DVD-RW, DVD+R recorded on the said machine. It's strange that Power Director 5 will import and play from all DVD media recorded on a Pan DMR-ESXX including DVD-RAM but not videostudio. It's a shame because I actually prefer the videostudio GUI since when it does work its faster. If I don't hear from ulead I'm going to record 4 x 5 minute segments of the same film on the same channel using the same settings i.e. FR (flexible record) each on different media DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW & DVD-RW (All will be finalised) and see which ones work in Videostudio 10.

VOB_2 ?? This does not sound like you are doing it correctly.gsxith3 wrote:haven't tried other disk. but VOB_2 was fine imported from same disk.

Using VideoStudio 7.01, I am trying to edit a DVD that I recorded from TV to remove the commercials.sjj1805 wrote:Just to make sure you are importing correctly please view

I renamed the .VOB files to .MPG, and that allowed me to open the video files in Edit. I know how to use Extract Video to trim out the commercials. But I cannot figure out how to put the non-extracted segments together and save it (with the commercials permanently removed).
Please point me in the right direction.

Permanently extracting video
Thanks for your reply. I renamed the three .VOB files to .MPG, and that allowed me to open them in VS7's Edit mode.
Next I used Extract Video to take out the commercials. Each time I did that I clicked on the "X" to Delete the extracted file (I thought).
Then I clicked the Share mode,"Create Video File", "Same as Project Properties." That began the rendering process which took several minutes to complete. I was expecting the newly created file to be shorter than the original one (without the commercials) but is was not.
So I believe I am doing something wrong, or missing a step. Please point me in the right direction.
Many thanks ...
