file cannot be indexed error when inserting video

Post by drakeyboy »

When inserting a .wmv file into my project I get a failure noticed stating that "the file cannot be indexed" so I cant add it. I can view the entire video clip through any player without problems. How can I get around this problem? I am using dvd moviefactory 4

Sometimes a corrupt file will play back OK, but cause trouble when it's edited or transcoded. I call it "sneaky corruption". :(

I'm not sure if it will work, but you might try using a 3rd-party program to convert it to another format (maybe MPEG-2* if you are making a DVD). SUPER is a FREE multi-format conversion program that may work for you.

* MPEG files are prone to sneaky corruption too... especially if you edit the MPEG. In fact, all of the highly compressed formats (anything other than DV) can sometimes cause trouble.
