noise filter and mosaic filter questions in VideoStudio10+

Post by christina »

Hi! I am currently trying Ulead VideoStudio10+ to see if it will do what we need it to do, and I have two questions:

1. We would like to be able to apply a filter like video static (noise) and adjust how much static is applied to the image. I did not see any filters like this-is this something I have carelessly overlooked, isn't part of the trial package, or does anyone know of a source for such a filter that would work with Ulead Video Studio10+?

2. The mosaic filter seems to be a fade-in filter. Is there a way to set it at one level without changing for the duration of the clip? I did not see a way to do this under customize filter option.

Thank you!

1. The "noise" filter is a great idea. Steve, Ron, let's add that one to our Wish List. The closest I could get, just by fiddling around for a couple of minutes, was by using the Rain filter and adjusting some of the properties...not what I am imaging, and probably not what you are talking about. You are probably talking about the affect you get with the sample clip V11, but adjustable.

2. The is one of the short-comings of some of these filters - they don't let you start at "0". The "least" amount of that particular filter is a value of 2. Did you try using the Mosaic transition? (That may not be available in the trial version.)

Thanks! I think I asked my question wrong about the mosaic filter-I don't mind the bottom limit on the amount of distortion applied, but the level changes across the duration of the clip. If I set it at 50 at the beginning of the clip, it begins decreasing at regular intervals so that the image is clearer at the end of the clip. Is there a way to apply the filter so that it stays the same over the duration of the clip? Thank you! If we can do this, we will go ahead and buy the program (and hopefully the noise filter will come out at some point:~)

You have to use the key frames.
•With your clip with the filter selected, click on the Attribute tab.
•Click on Customize filter.
•Under the little preview screens is a timeline. At the beginning of the timeline is a red diamond. That is your first key frame. Notice the width/height values.
•Now click on the diamond at the end of the timeline. See how the width/height values changed? Make those beginning and ending values the same and your clip will be the same from start to finish.
You can also add key frames between the first and last for dramatic effects.
All the filters work like this.

Hi! I don't know if I should post this as a separate question-you have been very helpful, and it was very simple to do exactly what I wanted with the filter. Is it possible to save a file as an .avi with ulead? It seems that I cannot, but I was not sure if that is just b/c I am still playing with the trial version. Thanks!

Yes you can. Click on Share>Create Video File.

Before you go any further, please take a look at the Recommended Procedure at the top of this forum. It was put together by members of this forum to help avoid problems that seem to be (or at least have in the past) inherent with VideoStudio. Although VS was designed to be used intuitively by using the tabs (Capture, Edit, Effect, Overlay, Title, Audio, Share) it is (was) not without its problems when used this way. The Recommended Procedure was designed as a work-around for those problems.

Also, since you have the trial version you may want to download the users manual for reference.
