I have made 3 different DVDs of about 4.3 GB length each from our vacation and sent them to friends who requested copies. The majority of the 20 recipients were able to play them without problems.
One recipient said that it played with stops and then stopped completely.
Another could play the 3 DVDs only to almost the end.
Could I assume that the problems these 2 recipients had lie in incompatibility between the DVD disks and their players? Upon inquiry their DVD players are capable to play +R/+RW.
The DVD were created with VS9 and are about 4.3 GB in length. The DVD disks used were Verbatim +R (8x) but burned at 4 x speed using Nero.
All the DVDs were played on my stand alone DVD player before the mailing (played at 20X speed). They were also playable without problems using PowerDVD or Windows Media Player 10 on the computer.
I asked one of the recipient to return the DVD and this returned DVD too played witout problems on my SunGale DVD player or on the computer with Power DVD or Windows Media Player 10 at regular playing speed.
Any advise would be appreciated as I want to send them replacement DVDs. Thanks, Bimbing
DVD stops playing toward the end

Welcome to the wonderful world of home-made DVDs! Sounds like you have followed all the recommended tips.
Did you check with the DVD player compatibility chart located here to see if anyone else may have experienced problems playing +Rs on those particular players? You can also check media here.
One other thing comes to mind. You said your project was 4.3 GB, so it was almost a full disc. Somewhere I read that some players have trouble reading the info at the edge of a disc. I, in fact, had some troubles with a "full" DVD not playing near the end. I reduced the bit rate so it did not take up too much room on the disc and that seemed to fix the problem.
