I have just moved from version 4 to 5 & am having problems with something that I seem to recall having done before in version 4.
What I wanted was an opening screen displayed with 3 buttons on it each of which linked to a scene selection menu for the 3 individual files.
I added 3 video file on the first page where it invited me to add media. I then selected each file & asked to do a multi-trimming on each file. For each file I selected in & out points which I assumed would be the starting icons for each thumbnail on the menu's which were still to be produced. When I went to next I expected to see the 3 files listed & onto each I could see the thumbnail icons displayed. Here I could find only video file listed & no thumbnails were seen.
In the viewer I can only see the main video title listed. I have tried going to various places to 1. find reference to the other 2 files & 2 where could I add a page or sub menu which be reached from the main menu.
When I go back to the first page where I added the 3 clips & can no longer see the option to multi-trim since it's grayed out. Have I somehow lost my previous in & out points.
How do I get this project back on track?
What did I do wrong?
The main thing is... do not trim your 3 videos into separate scenes. This requires unnecessary rendering and breaks the flow in the DVD player. And problems are more likely to happen if you use multi-trimming.
What you should do is simply create chapters for the scenes. Chapters just index the video without actuallly breaking it into pieces. So when the clip plays, there is no delay or stutter between chapters.
Your first menu will then show the 3 clip/title selections, and (if you enabled chapter menu creation) choosing a clip will then go to the scene selection (chapter) menu. Depending on the layout you choose and the number of chapters you set, these may be on more than 1 page.

Hi,
I misunderstood. I didn't know you wanted to remove sections of the 3 files. I never use multi-trim so maybe someone else or a previous post about "fast export" will help you better. But in the meantime this should explain it good enough...
The only way to get a separate (2nd) menu with MF is when you assign chapters to the clips (files) in your project and choose to create a chapter menu for each clip (file). When you select a clip on the DVD title menu, you'll be taken to the chapter menu instead of just playing it. This is what you want.
So... you'll have to multi-trim and export the 3 trimmed clips first. Then remove the original clips from the project and import the trimmed ones instead. Now create chapters and you'll get the 2nd chapter (scene) menu.
BTW I don't know why multi-trim was no longer available (grey) when you returned to the "Add media" screen. Normally you just click on a clip on the bottom clip list and the multi-trim becomes active, where you can continue with previous trimming. Unless your MF5 is without the SP1 fixes, or it got confused while you were looking for your thumbnails.
