Please help with two issues
I downloaded VS10 yesterday after using VS7.
1. If I need program help and click on the help button, I get a message saying it could not be found. Why?
2. Transitions: how do you apply a transition to your entire project?
Thanks

Try downloading the manual from here:
http://www.ulead.com/vs/documents.htm.
To apply apply a transition, or random transitions go to Preferences or press F6. Then you can set the Default transition effect.

Thanks for your prompt reply, but two follow-up notes.
1. I downloaded that previously. Are you saying that the help file is not linked to the program and that I'll have to manually open it up? After downloading the file it still did not open automatically.
2. Regarding the transitions, I did change the preferences, but with an existing project the changes were not made. I then removed the sole transisition, but the change did not take place.
Ideas?
Thanks,

When you say you downloaded V10 - did you download the trial version or the full (paid for) version ??
The trial version does not have a help file to reduce the download file size - and the full version requires a great deal of "Extra Content" to be downloaded to work correctly.
You cannot add transitions automatically after you have started your project - you must apply the setting in preferences first then when you import clips the transition will be applied.

Ralittle...transitions are inserted between video clips. It sounds like you may have downloaded into your computer a long video clip and you want the program to insert transitions within the long video clip ? If that is the case, the Video Studio program will not be able to do that. But, if you break your long video clip into smaller scenes and drop them into the time line, then Video Studio will automatically add the default transition(the transition you selected and put into your preferences)
between each smaller scene. Does that answer your question on transitions ?

Joe

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I was previously working with Ulead V7, and was working on a project that had numerous scenes.
I upgraded to V10, and imported that existing project complete with the scenes broken down. I was expecting to choose a scene transition and then for Ulead to ask if I wanted to apply the transitions to the entire project (silly me for thinking things would be somewhat logical).
I was also expecting to be able to look for answers by clicking on the help button after downloading the full version.
Neither task was accomplished as I had hoped. The help file is still not linked to the program. Do I have to open up a pdf file to get help?

The Help File is called vstudio.chm, it is supposed to be in the VS10 folder ( C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\VideoStudio 10.) Do a search on your system to see if it was placed somewhere else.
I have an idea for you to try on your transitions. Does the VS7 project, already have transitions inserted between the clips? If not, then after opening it in VS10, create a New video Library. Then select all the clips in the timeline and drag them to this new video library. Make sure that you have enabled the default transition effect in your preferences. Clear the timeline, then select all the clips and drag them back to the timeline. Now VS should have placed a transition between all the clips...

Regarding the Help file, when you downloaded VS, how many files did you have to download? Going from memory, there used to be three, though it may now only be two, and they were quite large (totalling at least 700 MB).
The main download is the main program installation. Then there was a contents disc which contained things like templates, background images and videos, and if I recall correctly, the help file. There used to be a third file which contained extras like Cool 3D for titles and (again, if I recall correctly) WinDVD software DVD player. People who have had more recent downloads may be able to correct me if I'm wrong... The second (content) disc appeared to have only one automatically executing file on it. The other things on the disc had to be manually installed.
As for automatic insertion of transitions into an existing project, this was never a feature of VS7, so I am not sure why you were expecting it in the current version. As far as I am aware, it is not a feature either in any of the other editing programs I have used, up to and including Adobe Premier Pro 2.0 -- though I would be absolutely delighted to be corrected on this too!!

1. Help Files
I suppose I would believe that if you purchase a product for download, then all of the files would have been included in the download including the help files.
2. Transitions
My issue with transitions is not whether or not they are automatically inserted, it's when I choose to insert a transition, then I would have liked it to ask if I wished to apply this particular transition to all of the remainder of one's project rather that to manually have to do it. I understand that I can change this under preferences, and have done so. However, I'm still having issues with this taking place from a project that I started under V7.
Sorry if I was unclear.

Thanks for the clarification, Ron -- though in fact, if you read my posting carefully, I was talking about automatic insertion of transitions into *existing* projects (i.e. ones which already transitions in them, and where 'automatic insertion' would involve replacing those existing transitions with a new default one). VS7 certainly didn't have that either!!!
In point of fact, I use the method you suggest for bulk insertion of a new transition into an existing project...
And ralittle2: I will add to my earlier comment. No editing program I have ever used, up to and including Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0, ever asks that particular question when you go to insert a transition as to whether it should replace all the others or be used throughout if there are no transitions already there.
Moreover, my point about the Help file, is that it should be there in your package. It was not included in the main installation download file for size reasons.

Thanks for your replies. I will double check the file downloads to see if I missed the help files somehow or did something wrong.
As to the transition issue, I tinker with both Ulead and Roxio, and Roxio does ask when you insert a transition effect if you would like to apply this to the entire seqence so this is where I picked up this nugget.
thanks again for your help, without it, many of us would be lost since the software help isn't much.

Thanks for the info re Roxio. I have never used it so wasn't aware of that nugget!!
As for the Help files, I perhaps should have added ruefully the point you have in any case realised: even when they are loaded, they are no much help anyway, though probably better than nothing. The manual is actually better, but that isn't saying much either!!
