OK. Question time. What sort of camera do you have and, more importantly, what format does it record audio in? If your camera is a mini DVD one, or hard disc model, then it uses Dolby and probably Dolby 5.1.
The next question is: what exact version of VS9 do you have? If it has SE in the title, then it does not include an ability to deal with Dolby for licensing reasons as SE versions are free and Dolby requires a licence fee for every program it is included in. Software and hardware manufacturers understandably don't want to pay a fee for something which is then going to be given away free when bundled with a piece of hardware.
If this is the case, you can try a free AC-3 filter (in its very latest incarnation, moreover, of 28 October) which can be downloaded at http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=AC3_Filter Just be aware, though, that this filter will probably only allow you to capture the Dolby audio, but will not allow you to output a new Dolby file. You will have to convert it either to standard (very high quality) LPCM, which unfortunately means larger files, or the more compressed but still high quality mpeg layer 2 audio format which will usually work, though the format is not part of the NTSC DVD standard...

If you are playing the DVD in your computer, you might need an DVD encoding software that supports playing the AC-3 sound or Dolby Digital audio. This encoder can be found in most DVD playing softwares like WinDVD and DVD Xpack.
WinDVD:

DVD Xpack:

This was the reply from Ulead when I reported the same problem with VS10, I am working on the problem at the moment. Regards Solo

I also have no sound
Hello,
I'm very new to both camcorders and editing/burning software and confess that I am very confused. Having read previous posts I am now aware that I have no audio because my camcorder uses Dolby, but I'd welcome any advice about where I go from here.
We have a Sony DCR-DVD105E handycam which records to 8" DVD+RW discs. I burned the contents of three of these plus audio to three 12" DVD+RW discs using Nero software that came with the camcorder. I now wish to amalgamate these three discs onto one 12" disc so I copied the contents of each to the free version of VideoStudio 8 SE which was bundled on my PC. Of course, there is no audio so there is no point in copying what I have in VideoStudio to disc.
Is there a VideoStudio version that I can purchase which will do the job? I really like the way you can see exactly which scenes you are working with, unlike Windows Movie Maker which only copies the file names and doesn't show you what they are. Can I be sure that the software will work with my camcorder?
Thanks and sorry for the ramble!

For VS8 and VS9, you had to obtain a special Dolby plug-in -- with VS8, you had to pay something like US$30 for this, though it was free to registered users of VS9 IIRC. VS10 and VS10+ can natively handle Dolby AC-3 dual channel stereo audio, and VS10+ in addition can natively handle 5.1 Dolby AC-3. So I would certainly go for VS10+ -- which will also give you many more bells and whistles over VS8 which was regarded as a very buggy version. Moreover, since you already have VS8SE, you qualify for a discount upgrade price for VS10+.
Incidentally, just a note on terminology: you talked about 8" and 12" DVDs. To me, and I think to you and probably all our American readers, this implies 8 inches and 12 inches, which would be giant DVDs indeed if they existed! Back to the future, thinking of laser discs
I am sure you meant to write 8cm and 12 cm respectively...

j.gregoire -- I see what you mean! And frankly, I am very surprised, as I am sure, would be the organisers of the VideoHelp website which is widely respected -- not to mention the developers of the AC-3 filter itself, another well respected group called SourceForge.
I simply chose the main download site for what was supposed to be a 750KB download, instead, I downloaded a 2.5 MB file which, as you suggested seems loaded with spy/spamware. Moreover, the file contained the dreaded SRC in its title and we all know screen-savers are often used to disguise viruses.
Curiously enough, though, when I went over to the right side of the VideoHelp page and chose the Mirror site, I correctly downloaded a 730KB zip file which only contains the AC-3 filter plus a small text file advertising 3 sites for codecs packs and the like...) I think this one is safe...
EDIT: I just went back to the SourceForge site and now realise I downloaded the SRC file because it was in ZIP format, while the other available file was an .EXE file, which I am normally leery of. Which one did you detect as having the spyware in it?
