curious, I just got a hang - not the same crash as you, but a hang for about 15 secs. I did the check box, but did not add chapters. I usually add chapters using the button right above the check box. I never work in 16:9, so this is the first I've seen it.

I don't get the hang if I add some chapters, I just create every 3 minutes. If you ever get past this screen you can delete the chapter menu if you like.
That is the screen i am talking about i just can't get past that screen. I wish i could mess with the page where i add templates and so forth. I have tried all sorts of combination but does not matter what setting i put it as long as the "select menu" is checked it will not pass that screen.

thanks. i'm really out of ideas i want to blow up my computer at this point. =(

if you push the add chapters button does it hang? can you manually add chapters? As long as I add chapters it goes ok. Is your file larger than 4.37 gig?

Yes, i have tried to add chapters manually and it looks like its working however, it still does not let me get to the next screen after the "select menu" screen. Also, yes my file is bigger about 4 gigs however, i tried to even test with very small video file and it still crashed...

sorry I'm out of ideas as well, sounds like either the dll is messed up or the template for the dvd menu's are messed up or the one of the settings in the registry or ini files.

my last idea would be to create a different admin user and see if it runs ok. If it does it's a registry problem as the registry is different for each user.

Hi

Sorry you are still having problems.

Just clutching at straws again.

There have been problems reported on the forum concerning I-Tunes.

Do you have I-Tunes installed?

For my own part I have had problems with Quicktime and I Tunes.
Some time ago my son installed I-Tunes without my knowing this updated QT to version 7. Had problems but after un-install/re-install everything seems ok.

Just to check, when you did ¡¥Clean Install¡¦ you did find all ¡¥Hidden Folders¡¦ and deleted.

Not sure if this will help as it was for earlier versions.
If you haven¡¦t already been here, There is a ¡¥CD/DVD Burning Engine Updates¡¦ that can be downloaded from Ulead.
The file I downloaded was called ¡¥ulead_burning3619281_pack.exe¡¦
I cannot find the original update page on the web, read the notes on this page (http://www.ulead.com/tech/general/burning_engine.htm )

Found it¡Xtry this page Under General Updates

http://www.ulead.co.uk/tech/vs/vs.htm

Sorry to hear about your problem

I just recently started having the same problem. Leaving Create menu checked on VS10+ and then clicking NEXT normally would bring up the MENU stage of the process. I did a reinstall, but still no luck. I will let you know if I come up with a way out of this issue.

Smartsound only partially installed...That has happened before, I just need to remember how to fix the Smartsound install problem. I found a description on doing a Clean Install on the Ulead site as listed below. Doing this procedure cured my Can't Create Menu error message...good luck!

If you've reinstalled VideoStudio 10 and it still crashes, try reinstalling the software this way:

1. Launch Windows Explorer and go to
"Tools > Folder Options > View" to check "show hidden files and folders".

2. Purge/delete all the files in these folders:
"C:\Windows\Temp"
"C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Local Settings\Temp" (for WinXP)
*It is safe to delete all contents of these folders. However, leave any files you can?t delete for now.

3. Delete these folders/directories:
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems"
"C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 10.0"
"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\10.0"
"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SmartSound Software Inc" (for full versions)

4. Go to "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information"

5. Delete the folder "{E188D820-1218-4E28-8BCA-91134C3664C2}"

6. Go to Start-->Run

7. Type "regedit" then "Ok".

8. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Uninstall

9. Locate and delete the identity enclosed in curly brackets that corresponds to Ulead VideoStudio 10:
"{E188D820-1218-4E28-8BCA-91134C3664C2}"

10. Go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio"

11. Delete the folder "10.0"

12. Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio"

13. Delete the folder "10.0"

14. Close Regedit and restart Windows.

15. Reinstall Ulead VideoStudio 10.

I know this is an old post, but i'm getting the same problem as Mecute in that when i create a meun and press next, it crashes with the same error message.

Has anyone solveed the 'afcachemanager.dll' problem yet?

I know there must be a conflict somewhere because when i installed it on another computer that we have in the attice, it worked!

I searched other posts but can't find an answer. Any help would be appricated? (And before you say it the computer in the attic is an 100Mhz and doesn't have a DVD/RW drive).

Thanks

Have you updated your DirectX? It can be found on the Microsoft DirectX website. The current one is dated March 2009 and can be found at http://tiny.cc/qb58I

Note that it updates both DirectX 9.0c (XP) and 10 (Vista). The number of your DirectX installation will not change, but the patch gives extra functionality in a number of areas and corrects other faults in VS which appear linked to Windows updates. The menu preview, 'building preview graph' and other problems in the burning module seem to be amongst them.

Note that DirectX is not included in the usual pattern of Windows automatic updates. It has to be done every so often by the user manually. So unless you have recently done this, you are probably still using the original, non-updated version of DirectX which came with your computer.

Thanks for your reply Ken. I've now updated my DirectX but unfortunately still get the same problem.

this is what the error says:
AppName: vstudio.exe AppVer: 10.0.0.0 ModName: afcachemanager.dll
ModVer: 1.0.0.1 Offset: 0000a60e

Has anyone tried to delete the offending afcachemanager.ddl and reinstall it?

Dandy, I'm not clear if you tried either of the fixes above from muskii or tommytucker, or even if you tried to reinstall, period.

I've tried Tommytuckers full delete and reinstall but i haven't tried Muskii's method as, to be honest, i wasn't sure what codecs to delete. So when Muskii says, erase package codec and erased media player include codecs, is there a specific one to delete or should i remove windows media player.

From the add or remove program list is see that i have XP Codec pack and an AVIcodec (remove only) file. Maybe i'll remove the AVI codec first.

I'm using Windows XP and i see from the hardware tab on the Sounds and Audio devices that i have 16 Audio codecs and 17 video codecs. Unless anyone knows the specific one to delete i will try and delete each one in turn. I guess that if all else fails than at least I can reinstall them easy enough.

Hi
Codec packs are usually downloaded and installed by you.

Most codec¡¦s are supplied with your software and additional packs should not be required.
Saying that, DivX codecs for instance are installed in addition to VS. But these are specific codec¡¦s not packs.

I use XP and see no extra packs in the Add and Remove folder.
The sound and audio device properties ¡¥hardware tab¡¦ show 7 in total.

The Avicodec you see may be an analyser, then again it may be a pack.
Does Avi Analyser show in the start menu?

The XP codec pack probably was not supplied with your operating system.

Trevor

I've now gone into the add or remove programes and removed the XP Codec pack and an AVIcodec (remove only) file. Strangely it may no difference to the amount of Codec's listed in my hardware tab, and i still had the problem.

i have noted down the codec's from other machines and, over the weekend, will remove the codecs if they differ from the other pc's.
