vs10 SELECT MENU CRASH

Post by mecute »

Hi, can someone please tell me why vs10 is crashing during creating a disc step?

This is what i normally do to get my vs10 to crash...

complete editing my mpeg2 videos
"Share"
"Create Disc"
Leave the "Create menu" checked
"Next"

I get a crash error:

AppName: vstudio.exe AppVer: 10.0.0.0 ModName: afcachemanager.dll
ModVer: 1.0.0.1 Offset: 0000a60e

If i leave the "create menu" unchecked it will work fine. However, i would really like to have menu options for my videos.

Thanks advance for your input.

Regards!

Though it may sound unrelated, you might want to consider a change in your work flow. After editing, do NOT go Share > Create Disc. Instead, go to Share > Create Video File > DVD. This will give you a completely DVD-compliant mpeg-2 file or files. You then completely close your project by opening a new one. This will clear the timeline. Then go to Share > Create Disc > DVD to open the burning module. Insert your new mpeg-2 file(s), and proceed from there. Let us know if you get the same error if you use this work flow.

Hi thanks for the reply. I have tried that tactic... however I have used "save as project settings" for the create video file and it created mpeg2 file plus .upd file. when i did Share > Create Disc > DVD to open the burning module (guessing this is the import dvd folder option) it did not display option to select the rendered file... Please help. thanks again.

Are you sure it created a .upd file since that has nothing to do with Video Studio, though it is the proprietary format of Ulead's PhotoImpact program.

Share > Create Disc > DVD has nothing to do with opening a DVD folder. A DVD folder is a folder labelled Video_TS and is actually one possible end product of the burning process.

Instead, Share > Create Disc merely opens the burning module. In the top left of that new screen are the words 'Add Media" and under that are four icons. If you hover your mouse over the first, it will tell you it is for adding video files. You click on that, and point to where your new DVD-compliant mpeg-2 files are stored on your computer. When you select these, they are lined up in the timeline at the bottom of the burning screen. You then build your menus if you want them, then burn.

Hi there, I did exactly what you told me and it is still crashing. Any alternative resolution? As I have mentioned before it only crashes if i have the "Create menu" option selected. thanks.

Did you purchase VideoStudio, or is it a trial version?

You may have to do some experimenting with some of the other options in the menu options. For instance, I had a problem when I had Auto Fade Out First Play To Menu checked in Project Settings (cogwheel icon, lower left of Burn Module window), although I got a Convert Step Got Some Problems error message with that one. I unchecked that box (thru trial and error) and it solved my problem. Sorry, I can't direct you to that thread. It seems the recent problems this board had must have corrupted that one.

Hi, "Auto Fade Out First Play To Menu" is already unchecked on my settings. I have no idea why its always crashing everytime i click next with the "create menu" selected... if i uncheck "create menu" option it gives me option to preview and burn a dvd. Please help if there is another way. My movies are too long to burn without a menu option.
Regards.

Mecute,
Are you manually setting up your BURN properties after Share/Create Disc, as detailed in the Recommended Procedure?

What are the properties of your video file?

I did not say that Auto Fade Out... was causing your problem. I said that it was the problem in my case. What I said was you may have to experiment with some of the menu options because, as it seems, something there is causing problems. That could be why, when Create Menu is unchecked, it works fine.

You also didn't answer John's question regarding your burn properties. Please answer the questions you are asked if you want us to try and help you.

Hi

From file-Preferences-tick-Show messages when inserting first video into timeline.

Start a new project
Insert the Video clip you are using to burn the dvd, a window should pop-up requesting you to change the ¡¥Project Properties to match the video¡K..
Click ¡¥Details¡¦
Use your mouse to highlight the text in the Video Properties section
Copy (Ctrl+C)
Paste to the forum ( Ctrl+V )

If you now select ¡¥Yes¡¦ your project settings will match the video file, this is normally what you need.

Now remove the video clip from the timeline.
You have an empty timeline, with properties as the video clip.

Share-Create Disc-Add video

I have set the project settings to match the video properties checked for smart rendering, then took the video clip out of the timeline as told and
Share-Create Disc-Add video. program still crashed. Thanks.
