Getting version 10 or waiting for 11?
Hi,
i still use Version 8 but i¡¬m planning to buy 10 soon.
But version 10 is out since over a year right? So Version 11 might be right behind the corner?
Well i won¡¬t buy Version 10 if Version 11 will be out soon. I don¡¬t want to pay twice.
Any idea when 11 will come out?

PS: Does Version 10 supports TV channel names when it comes to recording? I find it hard to find the correct TV channel by Numbers only . I would like it if i know wich is what (using Pinnacle PCTV )

Others will correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall that VS10 was released only a little over 6 months ago. (The announcement of its release came roughly in mid-April IIRC.) If that is the case, then I would not be exactly holding my breath right now for a version 11.
Moreover, we don't really know about Corel's intentions with the whole Ulead range of products since it took over InterVideo/Ulead recently.

We just don't know. But no, Corel, as far as I know, has no video programs of its own and acquired Ulead/InterVideo fairly obviously for this reason. Hopefully, they will leave it alone. When InterVideo took over Ulead last year, it seems they may have injected some of their own coding into VS10, which came out after the takeover. This may or may not have been a good thing. Some of the problems with VS10 discussed on this Forum may have had their origin in this.
The same may happen with VS11 when it eventually emerges, though personally, I suspect (hope) Corel, which had no video technicians/coders of its own, will leave it pretty much alone. After all, we have the example of Sony's takeover of Vegas a few years ago. And of course Vegas still comes out with that name, although Sony branding, of course.

I agree with Ken, however Corel hasn't applied this across the board. When it bought Jasc, that produced PaintShop Pro, it took less then a year for them to do away with the Jasc name. Of course everone knows that Winzip is owned by Corel. I would not be as concerned with the NLEs as with the imaging applications. Those seem to be the ones that Corel wants all the glory. I don't believe PhotoImpact is in jeopardy of being extinct, but it may be known in the future as Corel PhotoImpact, rather then Ulead.

Don't think it can. I have a Winfast DTV2000H digital/HD TV capture card, and it correctly detects and displays all the names of the various channels. But in VS, only a numberical counter is included for channel 'names'.
For what is worth, I never use VS for capture from the card anyway (neither the current one, nor its predecessor which was the analogue Winfast DV2000 card). I prefer to use the card's own software for capture, as it gives me more parameters to adjust for capture quality than VS. Then it is a simple matter to import the captured files into VS for editing. Doing it this way also allows me to set my own files names, instead of the klutzy ones assigned by VS.

Well i always got better quality video files if i use Videostudio instead of the Pinnacle PCTV software and more importand if i capture with VS the audio part always stayed in sync. I can¡¬t say this if i use PCTV software.
Well it¡¬s sad that names are not implemented yet, anyone should tell corel that they incorporate it into the next version.

I have a suggestion that you should just get Ulead Video Studio 9 instead of VS10 or VS10+. I just gave up on VS10+ because it crashes all the time and I believe it just has a bug in it. They just screwed it up. I have been patient long enough. I want to be able to create/edit videos without any problems at all period.

Might be a valid suggestion Star Treker, however there are countless posts here that say VS9 was screwed up. What I've observed over the last 1½ yrs here, is no matter what version it seems to be all messed up. If you take the time to research you too will find that with each version released there is something major wrong. While there are some bugs with each version, most people are able to use them. The key is the system operator and the system. The Star Treker wrote:I have a suggestion that you should just get Ulead Video Studio 9 instead of VS10 or VS10+. So just because you can't, is no reason for you to try to persuade others not to.

Well, I hardly had any problems with VS9 on my PC and I have been searching for solution to fix VS10 but it has been about 3 or 4 months and I haven't seen one yet since I bought it. VS10 should work fine on my PC because I have everything up to date but it doesn't. I really mend to say is that he should just use a version that hardly has bugs or a different program that works fine. I wasn¡¦t trying to persuade him not to. VS10 is nice to have but it seems that a lot of people have similar problems that I have on VS10.vidoman wrote:Might be a valid suggestion Star Treker, however there are countless posts here that say VS9 was screwed up. No need to trash V10 just because you are having problems. For most of us V10 works fine. A review of your posts found that you have asked for help, but haven't given the details that you were asked to give. Maybe if you provided detailed information of your problem a solution could also be found for you.
Tell us:
•How are you capturing your clips - firewire, analog-digital?
•What are the clip properties - right click on a clip and list them here.
•What are the project properties - File>Project Properties, list them here.
•What, exactly is your problem? List any error messages.
•Are you following the Recommended Procedure?

I haven't because I finally found a thread that someone has the same problem that I had but no one found any solution for it.Black Lab wrote:No need to trash V10 just because you are having problems. Well, here is the error message when it crashes and yes I have followed the recommended procedure:
Error signature:
AppName: vstudio.exe AppVer: 10.0.0.0 ModName: uvmpeg.vio
ModVer: 8.0.0.0 Offset: 000100eb
Also here is his thread and I was the last person that has replied.

AGAIN, you still haven't given any information regarding your clips, project, or what you were doing when you had problems.
That's like taking your car to the garage and telling the mechanic "my car doesn't run. Fix it.".
You say in your previous thread that you don't have the Help file. That sounds like VS didn't install properly. You also state that you uninstalled and reinstalled, but did you do the recommended "clean" uninstall? That process can be found here.

It mostly crashes before I start anything. It crashes when I'm creating a title or I'm working in the timeline. I use mpegs, wmvs, quicktime movs, and etc when I'm doing a project but I don't think they cause it to crash. I have the preferences are set like I followed from the tutorials.Black Lab wrote:AGAIN, you still haven't given any information regarding your clips, project, or what you were doing when you had problems.

Here is what I have in the Project Template Properties:
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo
I manually removed all files under of Ulead but it didn't help it. Well, I didn't do step 2, 4, & 5 or deleted from Common files but I will this time. When I first installed or reinstalled VS10 but it didn't ask me to restart my PC like the trial version asked me did. Well, I restart it anyways even if it didn't ask me to. I didn't buy the CD-ROM disc version just the download version. They gave me 3 download files: Ulead VideoStudio 10 Plus, Extra Contents, and Bonus Features. I downloaded all 3. Well, this is all the information that I can give you for now if I missed something I will get back to you.
