Sony HDR HC3,
AMD 2X64 4200, 1 GIG Mem, ATI Saphire video card 500 gig HD space
Win 2000 SP 4 Ulead Video 10.
I followed the tutorial religiously and cannot capture HD video in Win 2000. I can capture lower resolution video in Win 2000. I can capture HD Video with a MAC and I can capture HD and low rez in Windows XP but I don't want to go to XP then have to change to Vista in Jan. I have a Vista RC1 but VS 10 is run under a lower color/video resolution by Vista and the camera is not recognized at all. (Something to consider if you want to upgrade.)
Right now my work-around is to boot Win XP on a separate drive to capture the video and re-boot in Win 2000 for the rest.
Has anyone had success capturing Sony HD in Win 2000?
I'd volunteer to test VS XX for Vista if there was a beta available... anyone hear of something in the works?
Can't Capture in HD Win 2000 SP 4.

I'm just guessing here, but I suspect that due to the age of Win2k, it will not support the neccessary drivers for HD video.
Why on earth would you have to change to such terrible excuse for on OS? I couldn't afford to, even if I could, I certainly am not going to touch that one. WinXP does support HD video so why not stick with something that you know works?I can capture HD and low rez in Windows XP but I don't want to go to XP then have to change to Vista in Jan.
I think JC maybe able to answer this better. He seems to have a lot of lknowledge on HD video..Has anyone had success capturing Sony HD in Win 2000?

If you go to this link I should help.

I also posted to the link about Windows 2000, you cannot use it to capture HDV from most of the Sony cameras. If you put the camera in SD mode it will capture standard definition video.
I have a HC1 and have run a few tests with Win 2K, it doesn't have the HD drivers that Windows XP SP2 has. You might have a problem capturing with Windows XP with SP1 or below, due to the fact the drivers aren't included.

I suspected as much. True, it all seems to work fine in Win XP so why not buy the upgrade? Just that I remember the 8 to 16 bit and 16 to 32 bit processing changes (yea, that old) and hesitate to spend on XP when Vista is just around the corner. Back in the day, the 16 bit software quickly morphed to 32 bit and half the software/hardware I used died of the "unsupported" syndrome.
Of course I know very little about the mechanics of it all but we can only hope the change to 64 bit processing will speed up the rendering process.
Thanks for the replies.

Slunder,
Vista will probably be in a state of flux for several years as they work out the initial bugs. After that, maybe if I were to get a quad core PC, it might be time to convert. Until then, I am quite happy with XP.
The HD Tutorial for 10+ is located at http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=13872
which states that you have to have XP with SP2 installed to capture HDV.
