Hi, anyone out there know how to create that widescreen look.
Not looking for anything fanci, or real widescreen....that button on startup 16:7 or whatever doesnt seem to have an effect. But anyway, all i want is to create a black border top n bottom to a few seconds of footage.
Thanks in advance.

Hi
Have a look at my guide 16:9 a Look at Widescreen.
Shows how to change 4:3 to 16:9 using the overlay track.
Vs 10 has the ability to distort the main timeline, using this you should be able to change 4:3 to 16:9.
If you only need to change a single clip then using the cropping effect suggested by Mike may be the way to go.
Hope this Helps

well ive downloaded the trial version of VS10....trying to convert a 30sec long clip to widescreen.
All i seem to be able to do is ( same as in VS9 ) place the clips on the overlay track , convert to widescreen....and then, because its now in overlay, use the 'fit to screen' option....ok, so this works...but it seems at a high price - unless im doing something wrong !! Firstly, being in overlay, no longer able to ..say...fade or transition into my 30sec clip..also, on playback ( admittly only though the monitor - not having burned it to disk yet ) but playback appears a little jerky...whereas when i had my 30sec clip in the normal editing track, but cropped off the image to make a makeshift widescreen effect..plays ok....SO, is this the price you pay?
Finally, can someone please help me with my other problem, in the other thread of mine, moving image'. Driving me MAD! really want to get to the bottom of this using either videostudio or mediastudio ( which im a total newbie at! )..any help please on making a circle close in on an image and then stop at a certain point..ideally squeezing the image into the circle instead of just covering it ( thou at this point..happy at either....just how'd you control the closing circle..to make it stop...or perhaps move a little on screen!! )
thanks in advance

Hi there Trevor bit harsh on the ole' copying of post!! But can understand you not thinking id read your post..i do go off on a tangent at times!!! Sorry.
Did read it the first time, and tried the cropping...but unfortunaly it important for my video clip to retain the full image - for one scene at least - as action takes place at the bottom of screen..so cropping just dont work for me there.
Aside from that, prefer the idea of widescreen, but as mentioned in MY previous post, can only do this via the overlay track...and resorts in a very jerky motion....why is this? can it be ironed out? ..if not then yes, will have to resort to the cropping effect.
Cheers for your first reply anyway.

Is that "jerky motion" when viewed in the preview screen, or after it is rendered? Do not accept what you see in the preview screen as being what the final product will look like. If you have a clip in the main track and clip(s) in the overlay track(s) your computer is just working that much harder and you may (will) have some jerkiness.lakewud wrote:Aside from that, prefer the idea of widescreen, but as mentioned in MY previous post, can only do this via the overlay track...and resorts in a very jerky motion....why is this?
