Thank you Ken and Ron for your input and sugestions.
I started a new project from scratch, uninstalled NERO, rebooted the computer and exited ALL applications, no virus,no firewall, nothing - ALL EXITED.
Opened Ulead and CAPTURED a 45 min video from my analog VCR.
Moved the file onto timeline, trimmed front and back, adjusted music front and back.
Created a video file PAL MPEG2, opened CREATE DISK, imported my PAL MPEG file, added CHAPTERS, OK, NEXT, picked a Menu from the GALLERY, Changed MY TILE and chapter character size and color, NEXT, thicked CREATE to DISC and NORMALIZE AUDIO and clicked BURN.
"Converting Audio of the file" went ok, next was "Building Motion Background of the Menu Page" Ulead froze at 26/44.
No fancy files here, just a ULEAD captured file, rendered on timeline and crashing in the burning screen. Wow, how simple can it get?
I have a brand new computer 3.4 Mhz processor 4 GB RAM and 2x300 GB Hard drives, running Windows XP Home addition. So, my equipment is up to date.
Following simple steps I could not crate a DVD. In my opinion Ulead is EXTREMLY UNSTABLE PROGRAM and needs a lot of servicepacks before it will be usable. On monday I am taking it back to the point of sale and buy something that works ALL THE TIME.
Sent a technical inquiry to ULEAD 10 days ago, no repply as yet. This program is so full of bugs, it needs a pest exterinator.
Can you recommend a program that just simply works?

I don't have any recent experience with some of the others. But I have read several posts from people who migrated to Ulead from Pinnacle, because it was so unstable.
Basically you are going to find similar situations with any of them. A couple of members work in the TV broadcast industry, and use the big bucks programs like Avid. They have posted having more problems with them, then Ulead. They feel Ulead's programs are stable, and much more intutitive.
Your PC is certainly up to the task, more so then mine. I know you don't want to here this, but I've not had the degree of problems as you or several others have. Most of the time VS crashes on me, is because I'm using it to try and replicate a member's problem, and I'm running on my normal profile, connected to the internet, etc...
How are you capturing your video clips? Since you are capturing analogue, you must be using a device like Canopus, or AdsTech. It seems as though your MPEG file(s) are getting corrupt at some point. Without going through a lengthy troubleshooting process, it is extremely difficult to pin down where this is happening. It could be while editing, rendering or capture. The corruption may not be detectable until rendering or burning.
If you are still interested in trying to work through it, we can continue to work it..
One thing I guess in my favor is that I always capture to DV/AVI, do all my editing, then render. I have a Sony DCR-TRV 120, that has a pass-through. I connect my VCR to it, then my camera to my PC with a Firewire. The camera does the conversion.
One last thing, is do you have another program to use to capture your video? There's nothing wrong about using numerous programs through-out the process. I have and use a small freebie app called WinDV. However it only works with firewire. Your capture device certainly came with some program to allow you to capture. Have you tried using it? Try capturing with it, then bring your video clips into VS.
Try capturing short amounts of video, say 5-10 mins, to use to trouble shoot the problem.
The copy of the program you have might be corrupt, however if it was a real problem with the programming, then I and thousands of others would be experiencing the same thing, right??

Novozamcan,
When you create your DVD menus, try unchecking Motion Menus. You have to do this for each menu and submenu (hidden behind a tab). However, the whole process goes faster, with no converting videos in the Burn module. Also, I like the menus better.
If you want to use Motion menus, be sure to setup the Burn Properties to exactly match your video file properties.
BTW, if you ever find any software that "works all the time" please report back - I'd like to get some.

I am not sure if this can help, but Ulead has release a Service Pack 1 for UVS10/UVS10+ that is supposed to fix some bugs.
I have experienced NO pb with UVS10+ to date (French version), but I have applied the Service Pack 1.
The only diference I have found , is that UVS seems to run quicker, exactly as announced by Ulead, because I have an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and the SP1 optimizes UVS for this platform.
