Why does Joining a Video increase the file size?

I'm using MovieFactory 3.5, and I imported 2 DVD-Videos consisting of 5 media clips, 4.63 (4.31) GB total.

If I join 2 of the media clips, the project size changes to 6.06 (5.64) GB.

WHY? This doesn't make any sense to me... Nothing has actually been added.
