Pictureshow 3 - mov. files

Post by cam »

I am having problems importing mov. files into a project. The files are recognised, but do not play when I go to the "review" page (as they would appear on TV) - . I became so frustrated I have tried another programme by "Magix" but encountered the same problem. I have downloaded patches etc to no avail. For some reason an older program that I have "Sonic My DVD" can produce DVD including mov. files, but this programme does not have the features of pictureshow 3.

I have encountered same problem. Was told by support that Pictureshow 3 did not accept this file type. They told me to open the .mov file in Quicktime Pro and re-rite it, then import to my project. Have not tried that as I only have Quicktime player not pro which con\st $29.95.

Thanks for the reply - I wonder how it is that these companies can advertise on their boxes that mov. file imports are supported - it is about $200 that I have spent now and can't complete the tasks I wanted.

Just like an AVI file, the CODEC used in the QuickTime movie file usually is the problem. And some digital camera does not create standard QuickTime files. You will need to convert the QuickTime movie file to use another CODEC or to other file type so it can be used.

As I know, Ulead products support QuickTime movie files, but might not be compatible with the CODEC that QuickTime movie file uses.

You can fill the Ulead Tech Support Form to inform Ulead about the CODEC used in your QuickTime movie file, I think they will try to solve it.

You will be required to create an Ulead member profile by using a e-maill address when you fill the form. Please use an non-free e-mail address in the member profile and add the virtual Ulead Tech Support account (ts_reply@ulead.com.tw) to the safe sender list in your e-mail program so Ulead can reach you.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, HTCHIEN for the info. Looks like I will have to buy the Quicktime Pro to find out if it will solve my problem. For us novices, what is the definition of CODEC?

For the definition about of CODEC, you can check the following.

Ulead Learning Center - General Video Info - Video Formats and the Web:

Hope this helps.

mov. files - codec?

Post by cam »

If the reason is a codec, I am not sure I understand why an older programme "somic My DVD" manages to complete the required tasks - doesn't that mean that the required codec is already on my computer?
Confused???? :?

Yes, the required CODEC should be installed in your system, but the CODEC might not be compatible with Ulead.

Hope this helps.

mov. files

Post by cam »

For those that are having similar problems to me - you can download a conversion program from Bink & Smacker website for free I have found it best to convert mov. files to avi. using mpeg-4 codec in this program.
It is a time consuming exercise that shouldn't be necessary but until ulead can accommodate mov. files sufficiently - it is a start, and the programme is free unlike Quicktime pro.
Hope this helps someone...

Can you be more specific about the Bink & Smacker web site? I pulled up web sites using that as the search and get many choices. What am I looking for to get the correct download?

The actual website for Bink and Smacker is www.radgametools.com/default.htm - then go to download page and get The Rad video tools. The program is pretty easy to use - I found best results converting using mpeg-4 codec (full frame compression was still jumpy). Hope this helps.

I did the convert to output file type .avi. This did seem to work but the audio/video was to far out of sync. To do the conversion I just opened my .mov file and used the defaults. What do you mean when you say use the mpeg-4? Is that a choice in the conversion? I did not see that.

converting mov. files

Post by cam »

The steps I take are as follows:
1. Select mov. file
2. Hit "convert a file"
3. Accept avi. as the default (hit "convert")
4. I then get a pop-up box that says "video compression". Rather than accept "full-frames (uncompressed)" which is highlighted, I change it to Microsoft Mpeg 4-codec and hit OK.

It's like a big puzzle isn't it - and you thought you were just buying a dvd making program! Hope this helps - it has worked for mine.

I found the answer. It's called Pro Show Gold by Photodex. I downloaded the $69 demo and it worked the first time. Nothing extra or special to do, just drag it on to the project and it works. Yahoo !! Good bye Ulead.
