Alert: The Video Tutorials Still Show Signs of Corruption

Post by jchunter »

The malicious script that took the forums down also attacked the text of the Ulead Video Tutorials. The forum database was not rolled back far enough prior to the attack. I just cleaned up one of my tutorials by hand but others display the same problem - text strings that include single and double quotes are corrupt, which display as a question mark. Sometimes letters adjacent to the quote mark are deleted.

Everyone who wrote a tutorial should check them ASAP.

J.C. I just had look at most of them, and I'm not seeing anything like that. What specific one are you referring to? If that is the case then the server would be slowing as well, trying to process the injected code. So far it has been running great for me.

Are you referring to the text when viewed in Page Source, the HMTL, coding?

It could also be just that Admin may have installed a MOD during the time you observed that.

I checked one of my tutorials and what I think John is talking about are the incorrect characters being displayed in the text.
It looks to be some parts of the text that couldn't be recovered correctly by whatever method they used. In mine there was a square block, the same size as the text followed by a question mark for every time I had placed quotation marks. I went through and cleaned most of it up using the edit function.

John - and anyone else who writes tutorials.
May I suggest you place back up copies
Here.

This is just a small forum created by Ron (vidoman) and myself for the purposes of preserving back up copies. I think that the heiroglyphics you have noticed may be to do with missing fonts at the time the forum was restored from the back up.

I will tidy mine up but it is going to take some time.

This very recent post (http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=17813) also displays those incorrect characters.
