Hello all,
I currently have DVD Movie Factory 3 Suite. Now that I have an iPod Video, I find the need to save videos as a MPGE4 files which Movie Factory 3 can't do. I can find the info on the website, so I ask here. will Movie Studio 5 save vids as MPEG4? Is there a better upgrade for me? Would Video Studio 10 be a better choice?
Thanks,
Jake

Hi Jake,
Do you want to primarily edit or create nice dvds? If you are looking at the upgrade more for editing, the VS10 PLUS. I emphasize the Plus, because at the minute cost difference you get a whale of a lot more..
Then special note if you look at the current price structure for upgrades vs full, you wind up paying more then the full download/box price if you purchase VS10 or DVDMF5 and decide that you really needed VS10 + or DVDMF5+ and upgrade. (VS10 price then add the upgrade price and see what the total is).

Here is how I currently use the software.
I record movies and such straight from my Satellite dish. I then edit and burn to a DVD. This has worked fine so far, but now I need a MPEG4 burn capability so I can transfer the file to my ipod. Also, will VS10 Plus work with my MF3?
Seems like this is the best way to go as long as the VS works with my older version of MF3
Thanks,
Jake

I'm not sure about DMF3, but I have had DMF4 DC, VS 8,9,10+, MSP 7SE, MSP8 all on my machine with no problems, for sometime. If you render the proper compliant file(s) from VS10, then DMF3 should do alright.
What you need to be alert to is that DMF3 most likely will not recognize a VSP(VideoStudio Project file) produced by VS10. No problem though as you should be creating a DVD-compliant MPEG file before attempting to burn.

Jake,
MF5 is DVD authoring software and does not encode MPEG4.
VS10 does not have MPEG4 support either.
VS10plus can encode MPEG4 for iPod.
VS10plus also includes DVD authoring and Dolby 5.1, so you'd probably no longer need your MF3. You could encode MPEG2 for DVD with VS10plus and then import the results into MF3 to make a DVD, but it would be easier to just continue in VS10plus and do it all there (MPEG4 export and DVD).
(You can find all this info online in the detailed specs and the quick comparison charts in the Ulead product areas)
