Music Question - Can't use a downloaded WMA file in Ulead8?

Post by IronMike778 »

I downloaded some songs from MusicMatch.com for 99 cents but Ulead 8 will not let me use them in my project. I guess this doesn't surprise me, but I just want to make sure I'm correct about this. I've converted the song to both WAV and MP3 and I get an error telling me it can't find the file, even though it there. Damn copyrights!!! Lol.....

I can certainly import .wma files as well as .wav and mp3 into the timeline - so you must have a problem somewhere, how are you doing it, do you just click on the 'import' icon in the very bottom left corner and select 'audio' then which soundtrack to put it in - then browse to your music file and click OK - OR - do you import it to your library and then drag and drop on the timeline - OR - do you have some other method.

The WMA format supports DRM (Digital Rights Management), which can be used to restrict the use of purchased music files.

It's entirely possible that the file you got from MusicMatch cannot be inserted into a UVS project.

You're exactly right. I was able to convert it to wav then drag and drop it into the timeline rather than import it as a file.

When you converted the file from WMA to WAV, did you do this somehow in VideoStudio or through a third party? If you did it in VS, how? I an having the same problem in selecting a song I downloaded from Walmart and adding it to my video library for use.

I converted it using a third party.

Once you've got Ulead and your storyline opened up, minimize Ulead. Then find the song you want to add and drag it over the minimized Ulead bar at the bottom of your screen (but don't drop the song yet). Ulead will automatically open up again. Then just drop it into your storyline.

I couldn't add downloaded copyrighted music any other way. This has worked for me many times.

i had music match with a MP3 player and it had a digital rights folder attached to it.

if you download from their site you may only have rights to play on certain devices or PC's like Itunes has.

When my compaq MP3 player which came with Music match had problems playung back tracks it was suggested by Compaq i switch off the DRM folder in windows media player. this did the trick.

one must ask why compaq sold an MP3 player which was not totally at ease with the software that was supplied for it!

I also had a similar problem. My remedy was to burn the song to a CD, then rip it from there. Only then would Video Studio recognize it.
