BSOD during installation, help! !

Post by dax702 »

Hi, I just built a new computer and I'm trying to install my softwre. It looks like all the files copy, but at the end, I get a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death)

With typical windows BS and then this:

STOP: 0xC0000005, 0xF5832D59, 0xBA035A28, 0x000000)

Then I have to hit the reboot key

Upon reboot, I see that there is an icon for DVD Workshop 2 on my desktop, I double click it, the splash screen comes up, and then some error message with the title:

"Load MPEG vio driver error"

comes up and just shows the path to DVDWS.ini
After clicking ok, the program does open, so I tried to create a new project, and as soon as I got the title info for the project, I hit ok, and the program just closed instantly.

I also downloaded the latest update from the Ulead site and when I tried to run it, it said that it couldn't find the program on my system. So apparently, the crash to the BSOD happened before the installation was final.

I have the latest drivers for my video card as well as DirectX 9.0c.. I'm using a Netgear wireless USB adapter that has caused BSOD's before, so I tried unplugging it and re-installing without it there, but same problem, so it's not that.

Can anyone help me with this?

Well I got part of it (the MPEG vio driver error) fixed as I found Steve's post here:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 4392#54392

However, when I go to update, I get the error saying
"Cannot find the ulead dvd workshop 2 on your system"

Any idea why it can't find it?

I see no a priori reason for your problem. I suggest you may have something installed that may conflict with WS2, possible a maverick codec (there are many of them around). Can't really help other than to request you do some complete uninstalls, then systematic uninstalls of some other things, then re-installs until you find the culprit. Unfortunately, a good systematic search can take a long time unless you hit lucky. On the rare occasions I have had a conflict problem, if it's nothing obvious, I take the bit between the teeth, reformat the boot drive, reinstall Windows and the drivers, reinstall the tricky software, check it works OK, then set a restore point, install other things one-by-one with restore points and checking everything works after each one. Usually the problem just simply disappears for ever and I can assume that the fault must have been a corrupt file in Windows (which happens more often than MS would like to admit, especially in the registry - and registry utilities hardly ever can sort it out.)
