Adding SmartSounds tracks from other programs

Post by CycleWriter »

Hi all, I have a bunch of SmartSounds tracks from other programs that I would like to use with Video Studio. According to everything I've read, this is supposed to be doable, but I have been unable to add these tracks to my VS SmartSounds library. The only ones I've been able to add are directly from CDs I own, but there are a ton of tracks that came with Pinnacle Studio that I would like to access within VS. Anyone have an idea on how to do this? When I use the applet within VS to search for SS tracks it says "None Found." Using the SS migration command results in the same message. Any clues?

Please view SmartSound Quicktracks

If you are hoping to include the smartsound that ships as part of the Pinnacle software unfortunately you already have their small collection and much more with your Ulead software. However if you have purchased extra Smartsound from the Smartsound website, once installed onto your hard drive you do not need to install it again for any other smartsound compatible programs.

Actually, there are more tracks available to me from within Pinnacle Studio than what I can access from within Video Studio. According to the VS instructions, all SmartSounds tracks are supposed to be shared by any installed applications that support them. If that's the case, then why can't I use all my SmartSounds tracks in VS? I've done everything you posted in that link, but still can only see the tracks that came off my SS CDs and not the ones installed by other software. Aaaargh!

Sounds like you must have a corrupted installation of something
either VideoStudio itself or the Smartsound module.

I have a number of smartsound enabled programs and my large collection is visible in each. The default smartsound sampler collection in Pinnacle Studio only contained 2 tracks but the default smartsound full spectrum contained in VideoStudio contains 26 tracks.

The two in Pinnacle already exist amongst the 26 Ulead offerings.
They are all visible in Cyberlink Power director which has the same 26 Full Spectrum collection.

Inserting extra smartsound from my smartsound CD's results in the new sounds appearing in all 3 above editors and also MediaStudio.

That's exactly the collection I can't see in VS, but it shows up fine in Studio.

I'm still waiting for my VS 10+ discs to arrive. In the meantime, I'm still suing the demo. I don't think all the tracks come with the demo, but I should still be able to see the ones in Studio.

I tried copying all the .sds files into the SmartSounds directory, but didn't work. I also tried to migrate the files from within VS, but I get a message saying no files found even though I know they're in the folder. I'm baffled. I'll wait until my full VS version gets here and see if that doesn't clear it up. BTW, should I uninstall the demo and do a clean install of VS when it arrives?

It might be a limitation of the trial version and so as you say, best wait for your full version to arrive. The recommendation of this forum is to uninstall a trial version before installing the full one.

As for your last question, yes, do a full uninstall and a clean install of the full version.

As for SmartSound, I had trouble with VS10 and SmartSound. More to the point, though, it turned out to be associated with the version of the Microsoft installer on my computer if I recall correctly and also some incompatibility between QuickTracks and the version of QuickTime 7 Pro I am using. Anyway, it turned out that SmartSound itself has a newer version of QuickTracks which should get around this. You can find it on the QuickSound.com website, with instructions as to loading it... http://smartsound.com/support/updates.h ... duct=ulead

Have a look while you're there also at the 'Troubleshoot errors' down the bottom of that page...
