Error: Failed to record data to the CD

Post by arkclk »

I'm moving old VHS tapes to DVD. Have burned 11 successfully, but on the 12th one I received this error message, "Failed to record data to the CD."

The DVD plays fine except there is no sound, otherwise you would not know there is a problem with the disc. Anyone know what causes this error? Thanks for any help.

Using VS6.

One thing that stands out to me is why, if your original capture was of VHS tape, that you have used Field Order A to process it. Normally, analogue tape is processed with Field Order B...

Ken, I'm running the VCR input through a digital/analog converter and importing the data into Ulead as DV. This has so far not created a problem. One of my prior files was still on my computer and it had the same Field A noted and this file worked fine, so I'm still at a loss for what's causing the error. Thanks for your time in trying to help me resolve this.

Have you tried burning that 12th one again - these things seem to happen from time to time - maybe something happened on your computor during the burn (a system programme ran) maybe there was a very brief dip in your power supply as somebody local switched a heavy load, maybe you sneezed !! - it's a quite delicate process and quite resource intensive so it doesn't take a lot to throw the odd one off.

I agree with BrianCee. Another thing to consider is that you will get a defective dvd-r or dvd+r every now and then.

Like BrianCee sugested try burning it again.

Thanks - both problems solved

I thought I had one problem, but actually it was two.

First problem - No sound but video looked good. This was a problem where my 16 year old unplugged the DVD player from the TV to use for a video game, and didn't hook it back up properly. Easy to fix this one.

Second problem must have been a bad disc as I had no trouble burning it onto a DVD-RW. As this worked, I burned it onto a DVD-R and it worked fine. Amazing.

Thanks to everyone who provided help.
