DVD replay freezes

Post by anhel96 »

After following the recommended procedure how to capture, edit, and burn a movie to DVD I ran into problems when watching the DVD on the TV DVD player.
After 3-4 chapters out of 20 the movie just freezes and does not go any longer. I have no problem watching the movie file created and saved on the PC. I have now tried to burn this twice on 2 separate empty DVD+R's and before I waiste anymore discs I'd like some advice on this issue.
What can be the problem? Is it related to VideoStudio, the DVD burner or the DVD discs?

Thanks

Does the DVD (not your created file on your HD) play ok on your computer?

Are you sure DVD+R discs are compatible with your DVD player? You can check here.

My DVD player is a Philips DVP 642.
To me it looks like DVD+R should be OK to run on this. Not sure though, how to summarize the information on that web page you sent, because different users have differrent experiences to report.
So if DVD+R should be the issue, what type of DVD discs are the most reliable on most players?

Thanks

Yes, it looks like DVD+R and DVD-R media will play on your player.

The question you didn't answer, however, is will the DVD play in your computer. If it does that could eliminate the chance that the disc itself is bad.

Part -- and perhaps all -- of your problem may lie in the fact that you have a more expensive brand-name DVD player! I know this might sound counter-intuitive, but there is a wide body of evidence out there which suggests that quite a few of these more expensive players are very -- and I mean very -- finicky when it comes to what they will play. Some don't like home-made DVDs period. Others might prefer certain brands or +R or - R. Some don't like particular coloured dyes used on the DVD surface.

And a very common factor is that they don't like home-made discs which are burned too fast. A lot of people, when making their masterpieces, might for instance be using a 12x or 16x blank disc, and feel they should burn their DVD at that speed. That might sometimes work, but more often than not, it means that the burning laser has less time to embed the signal well into the disc track. The result is that a finicky laser in the stand-alone DVD player might simply refuse to read a lightly-burned signal on the disc. In other words, use a (much) lower burning speed. We normally recommend burning at no faster than 4x, or if the discs you are using only allow a minimum burning speed which is higher than 4x e.g. 6x, then use that.
