VS10 preview screen problem on HDV

Post by sealegs »

I've worked with Ulead VS before and liked it. I just downloaded the trial version of VS10 to try out with my new Canon HV10.
No problem with capture. Then, when I load the HDV file into the preview screen the first frame appears and when I click 'play' the picture goes off and all I can hear is the sound. When I click 'stop' the frame at that point appears. Repeat and the same thing happens.
When I load my regular DV files there is no problem.
Does anyone know what this problem could be? :(

Have you enabled the 'Smart Proxy' feature? This creates low res copies of the HDV file to work with which is useful for PC's that aren't as powerful as the latest and greatest. Once the editing step is finished, the movie is rendered using the original 1440x1080 HDV files. Go to Preferences, Smart Proxy tab. Enable it and choose a location for the files to be saved to.

I guess it could also be a display card issue...

Sealegs,

Could you post what your system specs are? This may be part of the problem (not having a system with enough muscle to handle it). Also please note that the Instant Playback/Preview generally is a poor respresentation of your finished product. With SD video it tends to jump, and have other problems. So as mentioned use the Smart Proxy, your PC will like you for it.

Another very important thing is to have your Smart Proxy or your Working directories set to a second physical harddrive. That reduces the read/write stress placed on using a single harddrive.

Ron,

Regarding your advice to post system specs, I just posted a new thread regarding the lack of the system info button. Also, there is no place on our profile to list this info. An oversight? EDIT: Read you answer on the other thread. Thanks.

Also, I love your idea of a backup forum. I have bookmarked it. Way to be proactive!

Right now there is not a way to post system specs as we used to. I was meaning to just post them in a reply. It's not an oversight, at least I don't think it is. It's just something that takes time to setup. I still haven't been able to implement it on my site, as just after this one went down, my PC done a major melt-down. I had to have the mobo, vid-card and 1 harddrive replaced (working it too hard..:) ). I just got it back on Friday, and last night got all my major programs re-installed. So prior to that I was using my wife's old PC, and didn't want to install Apache, mySQL, PHP, and a phpBB on her computer.
