Crash after Crash

Post by eglons »

I got fed up with Pinnacle Studio so shelled out for VS10 Plus. It arrived yesterday and was installed immediately. I've captured an hour of DV and dropped it to the storyboard to edit. So far I've managed 45 seconds before the program exits with a "windows has encountered an error" screen. It happens randomly and I have no idea what to do to stop it.

Event Entries to date:

Faulting application vstudio.exe, version 10.0.0.0, faulting module herdocdll.dll, version 1.0.0.1, fault address 0x0003ad63.

Fault bucket 278560158.

Faulting application vstudio.exe, version 10.0.0.0, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x00018fea.

Faulting application vstudio.exe, version 10.0.0.0, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x00018fea.

Am I just unlucky or is this product really not up to the job?... any help appreciated (I'm running XP Pro on and AMD 3.1Ghz machine with 1.5Gb of RAM, a dedicated 80GB 7200RPM Disk as D: with the program files installed in C:

You may want to look at this

According to this it seems to be an issue with AMD processors and how they react to Micro$ofts error handling

Other than that my main advice is check you have the latest graphic drivers for your card.

I have noticed that VS10+ is the least stable of the 3 versions I have owned, however when I updated my Geforce 6600 drivers the stability did seem to improve, although I did get a wierd effect on my preview window that the brightness changes when I play the project :?

Try switching the playback method to "High Quality Playback" in the
File pull down / Preferences / General tab. I had all kinds of crashes until I changed that and it never happend again. I also downloaded the latest patch and it worked smoother. Might be a different problem but easy to try.

I have an AMD processer and edit mpeg files.

I also have an AMD processor and Windows XP Pro SP2 with no issues.
How did you get the video into your computer - hopefully by way of an IEEE1394 'firewire' cable.

Please view this link:
From Camcorder to DVD with Video Studio

If this doesn't help then you may need to uninstall/reinstall as per
