Capture Function Freezes after One Minute

I am running XP Professional with a Pentium 3 550Mzh with NTFS file type. After one minute my capture from my Sony Camcorder DV Firewire, using MPEG and/or Microsoft AVI with various other settings, Freezes. Task Manager says "not resonding." I have tried installing earlier version 5 & 7 with the same results. Can anyone help? I am unable to capture video.
