Random crashes during menu rendering

Post by Kaledi »

I've recently updated MF5 to the plus version and around the same time I built a new computer using a dual core Athlon X2 processor.

I have been experiencing random crashes when rendering a final project with MF5plus. The crash always occurs towards the end of the menu rendering i.e. creating the motion menus and transitions. The crash is random but reproducible, but not only some projects are afflicted. I realise that with the information I have given, it is difficult for anyone to point to a solution, but what I'm more interested is whether others have experienced something similar.
Typical project layout
Several titles that are all DVD compliant and do not re-render
Smartmenu for title page
thumbnail menus for chapter selection of individual titles
Motion menus activated

I myself also have an AMD system (however, not dual core) and DVDMF 5 Plus is working well (as you can see in my user profile).

Maybe I should go buy an AMD dual core system to have a check....

to be fair I don't think these crashes are necessarily related to using an AMD processer (though getting a dual-core processor would help solve my other post).
This is why I have posted because in general MF (3,4&5) have all been very stable in my hands and it is only recently that I have started experiencing these crashes, and I think it may have something to do with the SmartMenus. For one project that wouldn't render (crashed during motion menu creation), I switched the motion menu off and it burnt correctly!

Kaledi,
assuming you reinstalled the OS and everything else on the new system (and didn't use the installation from a disk of the previous system).

It might not help, but you could try to further isolate the cause...

Try different transitions, in case some are still broken after the update. The menu transition behavior has changed, so maybe there are new problems now.

Delete or replace the chosen background audio with a different type/length, like plain PCM WAV. And change the motion menu length in seconds, like making it shorter.

It is important to post exactly how your compliant MPEG2 files were obtained and if there was any splitting/joining done prior to chapter creation (which would be the reason for the problems).

(The last post here was Oct. 6?? I've been offline and I guess the forum must have been down for a while, or restored from an earlier backup??)
