My created dvds start to loose audio video sync after a short period. Sync appears to be ok for about 10 minutes or so then it outsyncs about 1-2 seconds. All patches/udates are installed, oringinal clips before conversion are perfect in sync. Different recording quality levels make no difference. Anyone have these problems? Any known remedies known?
thanks
OUT OF SYNC AUDIO & VIDEO? using WS 2 with latest update
Search the forum for "sync". This is a common problem, and it seems to have several different causes and/or solutions.
In my case, it was caused by corrupted MPEG files. (Although, the files played OK on Windows Media Player.*)
I only had problems with edited MPEG files. DVDs made with unedited MPEG files were OK, but DVDs made with edited MPEG files had sync problems. So for me, the solution was to get a different Video Editor.
*The Workshop preview was OK too. However, files authored to the hard-drive were out-of-sync, so I didn't actually have to burn a DVD to see the problem.

To play the file OK in the player does not mean it can be edited OK. This is because the player will ignore the frame error in the file and continue the file playing....

I was having this problem also and it seems to be a very common problem with DVD Workshop. The program seems to be very picky when it comes to MPEG files that are not perfect and they will become out of sync when the project is made. The way to fix this is to extract the audio (de-multiplex) from the MPEG yourself. Add the .m2v movie portion but DVD Workshop won't except the .mp2 file so I converted it to .ac3 using BeSweet, with the GUI BeLight, which are both free. Add the .ac3 in the Audio tab under the Edit menu and check "Convert to Disc Template". When burning or creating project in the Disc Templates drop down make sure to choose the (Dolby Digital AC-3 Audio) option. This fixed my sync problem.

Hi,
DVDDoug said it best, depends on the source files and HOW you are
editing them.
The postee in this thread says after playing about 10 minutes.
That isn't the bug. There's something else going on with his mpeg2 file.
Plus he never posted the properties of his source material which makes
it impossible to suggest anything to him.
I'm curious what your source material was to have to export the audio
because you were having problems. What program did you use to edit
the mpeg2 file before importing it into WS2. Another ulead product?
You said:

If the ac3 file your importing is already ac3 then why are you forcing
it to be re-rendered. It only needs to be mutiplexed into the VOB
container. Unless your changing the bit-rate.
Note: If WS2 lets you toggle that switch on and off the audio file is
a compliant file. If it wasn't a compliant file the box would be grayed out
and checked. WS2 would force a render of the audio because it's not compliant.

I was reading about this on other message boards and apparently this is a very common problem with DVD Workshop. Whether it is an MPEG problem or not this fix will work with any MPEG you have. If you de-multiplex the file and then use each separate stream you will never have to worry about this problem again. That is why I posted it as a work around to the original problem because you will have a much better chance of not having a sync problem. Also AC3 is a more compatible audio format for DVD players as far as I know. For editing my MPEG files (cutting out scenes) I use Cuttermaran and after using the software the MPEG is in sync but goes out of sync once DVD Workshop makes the DVD files.
