Saving still in VS10+

Post by gordonwd »

When saving a still from a film clip in VS10+, it saves a BMP with the dimensions of 720x480. But I thought that the effective square-pixel resolution of the video frame is 720x540, and indeed at 720x480 the picture looks obviously "squashed down" when opened with PhotoImpact or even when inserted onto the VS10+ timeline with the "preserve aspect ratio" option set (VS10+ displays the still with black bars at top & bottom).

In other words, it looks like exporting the still changes the aspect ratio of the frame and distorts it vertically. Am I correct in this observation, or am I doing something wrong?

Set the Preferences (File Menu) - Image Resampling Option = Keep Aspect Ratio, Resampling quality = Best and set the image encoding that you want BMP/JPG, Image quality = 100.
