Video Zoom

Post by capjockey »

I'm using Video Studio 10 and trying to prepare DVD movies to play on an iPod.

The DVD is in 16:9 but I'm editing in 4:3 to match the iPod screen. The project therefore has a 16:9 video with black bands top and bottom. What I want to do is zoom the video to fill a 4:3 format, losing the top and bottom black bands, cropping left and right of the video and filling the iPod screen.

If I use the video crop filter, it produces a 4:3 image but has a black band all round it on the final product.

In short, can I crop the 16:9 to a 4:3 and then zoom it to fill the entire 4:3 screen?

Thanks

There is a tutorial prepared by TubaDad, Converting Video from 4:3 to 16:9l. In the thread Tubadad mentions that the same procedure can be used to convert 16:9 to 4:3.

Brilliant! Thanks vidoman (and Tubadad).

What a wealth of info and advice this site has.

As a refinement: is it possible to pan the zoomed section at selected points in the movie so that if, say, the person talking is right over to the edge of the screen they are not cropped off?

Glad it's working for you..:)

I would think that you can. I haven't tried that yet. But it should be just a matter of using the pan/zoom filter and customizing it with keyframes..
