Error: Source File Had Some Problems (5003)

Post by LindberghH »

Hello: I have MF3, and I open an mpeg file, add chapters, make the menu and chapters page, and it's all good. When I click OUTPUT to burn the DVD, the status bars start working, and a few minutes later I receive the msg: "Source file Had Some Problems (5003)". Once I close that window the next window says "Cannot Open File". I have un-installed everything that arrived from ADS Tech: Capwiz, Muvee producer, and MF3. I then re-installed everything (incl. downloading the patches). Same error msgs. The manual on MF3 that I downloaded isn't the best. My computer specs: 3.0ghz, 51.7GB HD free, 512ram, Win Pro Service Pk 2. Your help would be appreciated - and bear w/ me since I'm not a tekkie ... I'm your most basic user. Thank you!

Your MPEG is corrupted. It may have become corrupted during capture or during editing. (The MPEG format was not designed to be edited and I've sometimes had trouble, although some other Ulead users have not experienced these problems.)

I assume that you used CapWiz software for capture. (It's generally best to use the capture software that came with your capture hardware.) Also, you should leave your computer alone during capture, and minimize the number of applications running in the background.

If you edited the file, try making an un-edited DVD. That will help to isolate the cause of the problem.

Correct:
Capwiz is the software that came w/ the capture device, and it's the only capture software I've used since I'm new to the game. The computer is an extra computer in the office next to me, no one uses it so there weren't any programs running besides the capture program. I also opened a different file and encountered the same problems, error msgs.

Any tips on how to deal w/ MPEG2 files?

What format should I save the files in/as so I can avoid this problem when creating chapters / menus in the future? Thank you!
