Import DVD-VR folder - Invalid parameter error message

Post by danick »

I just got a new DVD writer for my computer that reads Ram disks. I used my standalone home Panasonic DVR to record some video onto a DVD-Ram disk and wanted to create the menus with MF5 on my computer.
So I use the Import DVD-Video or DVD-VR files button.
Then click on Import DVD folder.
Then pick the DVD_RTAV folder. This produces a list of programs with a number of cells in each program.
When I try to import the programs, MF only imports the cell 0 and then produces the "Invalid parameter" message.

I copyied the folder onto the hard drive and tried it again and received the same results. I tried doing the same thing with Nero 7 and it imports and makes the menus just fine. So what's the problem with MF5??

"Invalid Parameter" error when importing DVD-RAM

Post by aieronimo »

Hi, Danick.

I am experiencing the exact problem about which you posted in this forum last October -- the "Invalid Parameter" error when importing DVD-RAM video into Ulead Movie Factory 5. Did you ever figure out the problem? If so, would you be so kind as to share the solution with me?

Thank you.

Ditto - same here. It doesn't happen that often but it happens enough to make you wonder why DMF5+ cannot handle it when other software can...

Import DVD-VR folder - Invalid parameter error message

Kaymann -- What other software can I try that will handle this correctly? I'm not looking for anything more fancy (or costly) than being able to burn the DVD-RAM image (without error!) to DVD-Video. Something that does not require a powerful computer is a major plus. Thanks very much for any recommendations you can provide. -- Tony

Also -- do you notice a pattern in when the problem occurs with MovieFactory (vs. when it does not occur)? Maybe I can at least avoid the problem, if not fix it. Thanks again. -- Tony

The only pattern I can distern is perhaps on disks where I selected "update Control Info" function. Other than that I believe it could be minor disk errors (make sure the disk is clean). If you work from the bottom up you can isolate the offending "cell" and import all the other cells.

Nero worked for me but I did not like the interface and the import process was very conveluted so I uninstalled. Then I found over 50 registry remnants! So I do not think very highly of a program (Nero) that can not clean-up after itself. Came bundled with a Memorex DVD burner so no loss.

DVD Movie Album works alot slower but at least it gets the data out. I believe there is a RAM disk error because it grinds away at it but it keeps going until it is through. DMF5+ just shuts down with the error message. DVD Movie Album also imports into a folder named the date of the shoot and goes exactly where you want it (very nice compared to either Nero or DMF5+)

Pinnacle (father-in-law) worked but and I may have to look more closely at that product ($69). They do not have a trial version that I could find.

DMF5+ also has a bug if you come in off the main menu wrong it will not let you pick the import folder (I have another thread on that). But the fact that DMF5+ is optimized for dual core is what keeps it on my machine.
I like DMF5+'s interface the best. However the other querks are starting to add up.

For now I import with DVD MovieAlbum and everything else through DMF5+.
