Change Duration for all pictures

Post by monolog »

Hello,
I´m using VS 10 as a demo-version for 30days.
I inserted ~300 pictures with the default duration (secs).
How can i change the duration for all pictures with a few clicks? Or do i have to select each of the 300clips to change the duration from 3 to 5secs?

Thanks for any tipp

Hi

Select all clips in the timeline (Shift+Click)

From the menu at the top--Clip--Change Image/Colour Duration

Trevor,
I am going to have to send you a case of Guiness!

I have been grumbling about the fact that the duration control disappears the moment I select more than one image and never knew that the Menu item remained intact. I don't even remember seeing this menu item before. Is it new on version 10?

Wow John that surprises me.

The Clip-Change Duration option has been about for at least the last few versions, may be 7 not quite sure.

Wait! Hold that beer shipment!

I just tried to change some images on my current editing project and - as soon as I select more than one, the Menu/Tools/Change Duration, dims out and becomes inactive.

However, when I created a new project, with several of the same images and video clips, the Change Duration menus remains enabled when I select several. I added sound and titles and it still remains enabled. :? I don't know what is going on here.

I restarted VS 10+, repeated the same tests, and got the same results: only my current editing project has the problem. :x

Something is disabling the Change Duration menu. for that one project.
Edit: Using my test project:
When I select an image and a title, the ChangeDuration menu remains enabled but when I click, the dialog box does not open. :?

When I selected an image, a cross fade transition, and a video clip, VS crashed with error signiture AppName: vstudio.exe AppVer: 10.0.0.0 ModName: vstudio.exe ModVer: 10.0.0.0 Offset: 000a1b15
This is repeatable

John -- I suspect you are right that it has to be something in that one project that is causing the feature to be unavailable. (Clip/Change Image/Colour Duration, not Tools/Change Image/Colour Duration as you wrote.)

I have just made a quick slideshow as a new project with randomly selected images, and had no trouble with the feature, even when there were transitions between each image.

To test your problem, I opened an old project, added the same still images to the project timeline with the existing videos, transitions etc. Selected all the photos, and Clip/Change Image/Colour Duration remain available and did in fact change the duration of the images in the timeline. I repeated this with another old project just to be sure, and again it worked.

Moreover, it remained active and worked whether I selected only the photos or selected the whole timeline (where a couple of Colour panels were also changed in duration!)

Change the default duration for inserted images in the Preferences before loading them.

Ken,
Thank you for doing some tests on this point. I have made several new HD projects and also checked out an older SD project and changing duration in multiple Image selections work in all of them.

However, I have just repeated the image-crossfade-video clip crash immediately after selecting Change Duration: AppName: vstudio.exe AppVer: 10.0.0.0 ModName: vstudio.exe
ModVer: 10.0.0.0 Offset: 000a1b15
Can you reproduce that?

Terry,
Changing the image Duration Preference is no good because the least significant digit is seconds - not frames - I'm trying to sync slide duration to the beat of the music.

John -- I'm not sure what you mean. As I said, I had tried out a couple of old projects which both consisted of opening and closing colour panels, video clips, transitions (mostly cross fade), music and voice clips. I made sure they also had titles. I then added a random selection of still images. Transitions were automatically inserted between them (crossfades again). I selected the whole lot, click on Clip > Change Duration, and the duration of both the colour panels and the still images all changed. Nothing else, including titles, changed. And there was no crash. I just did it all again to be certain, with the same result.

Instead of using the VideoEditor, have you tried using the 'MovieWizard.'

Image

In this wizard you will find an option to fit to background music and tempo.

Ken,
I just made a new project using standard def clips and got the same crash:
1) I inserted an mpeg2 capture file in the Edit timeline.
2) I used the scissors control to cut the video in two pieces
3) I inserted 2-3 jpeg images in the cut.
4) I dragged a Crossfade between the last image and the last half of the video clip.
5) I selected the rightmost image and shift-clicked the last half of the video clip and verified these three contiguous items were all selected.
6) I selected menu: Clips/ Change Duration
7) There was a slight pause, after which 10+ went belly up. with the same error signiture that I posted above.

Please duplicate this and see what happens in your computer.

Steve,
I noticed your previous post on using the Wizard and when I tried it there was no menu bar or point of control from the wizard's main screen. There was a timeline but it would not accept music clips. Moreover, I did not see a way to select a range of images, directly from my current project timeline, into the Wizard's timeline in order to do a change of duration.
What is the secret to opening the "Settings" dialog box in your second picture above?

Its a bit hard to find which is why I posted the screenshot.
Its on the second screen.
The first screen you insert all of your images.
The second screen - you see the screenshot I have placed above.
On that second screen you will see the gear icon (I have outlined it in a red box) and this brings up that dialog box.

It then changes the duration of all of the images based upon the tempo. some pictures will be displayed a short time, others a bit longer so that they all fit in with the music.

On the third screen you can now select "Edit with VideoStudio Editor"
Now they all appear on the timeline as though you had placed them there and modified the timing for each individual clip.

EDIT:
I decided to go the whole hog and create a short tutorial:

Hi John
(

Guess the Guinness will have to wait.

I ran a test re:- Clips/ Change Duration as your post.

Like Ken, everything works ok, I get no crashes at all.

I have had no problems using the Clip/Change image duration.
