Chapters on menu do not save when you close the program

Post by tel33 »

It another annoying thing that I have found out with VS10.

Why is it that if you complete a project, editing etc then including the chapters menu for access, if you need to shut the pc down or close the program for any reason the chapter template you used to create the menu are defaulted back even though when you close the chapters menu and program it says it is saving your project when truthfully it is not!

Am I missing something here or does saving your project really mean wiping out what you have done on your chapter menu and forcing you to re-do it all over again?

Comments and solutions welcome please as VS10 has driven me mad and wasted soooo much valuable time with my new wife that the pc seriously nearly went out of the window last night!!!!!

I only perserve because its our honeymoon video and I only have another 8 hours to edit and I dont want to go grey any more than I am, I also want a wife who will stay with me and not think I have fallen in love with VS10 and fallen out of love with her!!

FOR MY MARRIAGE PLEASE HELP!!

Only joking really but you get my drift!

Help is required though.

Thanks

Ady

If I am not mistaken, after you close at the menu step it takes you back to the timeline where you have to Save your project once again.

Just to add to what Jeff mentioned, when you "Close" the DVD authoring module, it actually "saves" all of your chapter and menu edits to your DVD creation .vsp file name, and that's all. When the program returns you to the timeline of the editor, you then must click File|Save to "save" your DVD creation .vsp file to your hard drive to the location in your working folder.

I guess the upside to this "double procedure" is...if you don't like the outcome of your menu selections/edits, the only way not to save it is to "Close" the authoring module and NOT save the file to your hard drive by not clicking on File|Save, but instead returning back to the authoring module. There is no "undo" feature in the authoring module, although there ought to be one. Maybe for a future version?!
Cheers,

Bryan P.

I was having the same 'problem'. What I found is that if you save your project, your chapters are saved and are there the next time you open your project. HOWEVER... after re-opening the project file, as soon as you do any further editing, the chapters are gone. All I was attempting to do was change some wording on a title, and poof....chapters gone. I had TWENTY-THREE chapters.

Procedure for saving your chapters etc in the authoring module.

1. Create a new project.
2. Save the EMPTY project with a meaningful name.
3. Start creating your DVD menus
4. when you exit the authoring module the program displays a "Saving Project" message. In fact it doesn't!
5. You are returned to the Video Editing Screen.
6. SAVE your project.

Now if you close VideoStudio and re-open it. Open the saved project and go to the authoring module (Share tab - create disc) you will now find your Menus etc intact.
