Newbie needs help...Installed everything, program won't open

Post by Snax »

I apologize for the simple (hopefully) nature of this question...
I just purchased the VideoStudio 10 plus online and after downloading and following all instructions I clicked on the installed icon to open the product but it doesn't open.

I also tried opening it from my start menu etc. The egg timer icon comes on so it looks like the program will start any second but nothing happens.

I'd appreciate any and all assistance as I'm admitedly new to this.

Shut down all other programs running and try again, use CTRL/ALT/DEL and choose the programs that are running with your user name after it, not explorer.exe though and end task them.

Try running the VS10 again, if it works after closing the other programs down then you have a conflict going on with another program, if it does not work is your pc powerful enough to run the VS10 program?

If your egg timer is showing that the program is doing something wait a little longer if your pc is slow the program can take a while to start.

Have you loaded the Service pack 1 on yet? Youc can find it at the address below

Thanks for the speedy response, much appreciated!

I tried closing all other programs but the same issue occurs. I believe my computer is adequate ( if only just) to handle the program. I will be upgrading it soon through a freind in the computer business so he'll make sure it's powerful enough for sure.

I did also try running the sample project which started to open then I got the following message...

When you installed the program did you close all programs down, have you loaded the packs on then the service pack?

As you have a Runtime error it look like you have bad file that was not written correctly when you installed the program or is missing completely, possibly it could not overwrite a particular file and corrupted it.

Remove VS10 totally including the folders and shut down the pc, restart and make sure that you use msconfig (use Start then RUN and type msconfig to open it up) to shut all programs do as was said before, restart again them load VS10 and restart after loading each program ok.

Go also into your profile on this site above and put in your system specs so we can see them, that will help.

Keep trying it will work eventually! :D

I tried to do what you said excpet when I type in msconfig I get a message saying it can not find it.

As I said previously, I'm new to this whole thing so bear with me!
I'm unsure what I'm doing wrong if anything. I called for customer support but the guy on the phone said he can only help registered customers...

He asked for the products serial number (I downloded the purchased product from the Ulead site) but the number can only be seen once I can open the program! I tried to explain to him that the problem is I can't open the program in the first place. I gave him my order number and any other info he needed but he said without the serial number, he won't help me further. AAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!

As it stands I'm out over $100 and I have a program I'm unable to use.
Thanks again if anyone can take me through what to do step by step. I'm not even sure what "msconfig" does!

If you need Tech support help, and you have a legit copy of VS installed, and need the serial number you can manually get it from the registry. It is found here: Go to Start>Run and type in regedit, then in the folder tree on the left go to the following:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\10.0\Installer.

Look in the in viewpane on the right for Serial Number.

How did you manage to install anything without your serial number?
It is true that you can see the serial number in the 'Help' - 'About' box but that is something you get AFTER it has been installed.

When you purchased the VideoStudio you will have received an Email from 'Element 5' who handle the online purchasing. That email contains your download link(s) plus the serial number.

Anyway, back to your problem in general.
If it didn't install correctly the chances are you have a corrupted download.
The Download link given will be 'time limited.' you should therefore download it again before that time runs out.

Now try running the installation again. Dependant upon how successful the original installation was it will either
Start from scratch
Offer you the opportunity to do a repair installation or
Remove VideoStudio (so that you can then start again.)

If you still have problems then follow the instructions here
Re-installation of Ulead Products

Thanks once again for the help guys.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything twice to no avail.
Tonight I had my computer tech friend log on remotely to see if he could see what was going on.

He did say I could use more RAM and an updated video card. The program tries to start up but doesn't.

As for the serial number, I just checked over my email reciept and it just contains my order number and license key.

I'm going to get those much needed computer upgrades done and then he's going to see what he can do. I really appreciate the assistance folks.

By the way, I'm a huge fan of the Photo Impact 12 which I also purchased online. It had no problems installing.

similar problem with ulead not starting

Post by mcurtin »

For over a week, I was running ulead just fine (trial VS 10+) but was having a problem getting .mov files to play with correct audio when played thas project. It was suggested that I try a converter on the .mov files.

I downloaded the "Super converter" program, converted the .mov to mpg and then went to run ulead. The program would no longer execute.

I reinstalled (chose "repair" option)...still won't run. Uninstalled everything via windows delete prgrams.
Reinstalled all new drivers for direct x, wmp, etc, etc as ulead recommends, then redo wnloaded the trial, reinstalled and still the program will not execute from anywhere (desktop shortcut, "programs", start menu, etc. ) My PC and graphics are very powerful (the program was running flawlessly before) so that is not the issue.
As far as I know no other changes were made to my computer with the exception of downloading the Super program. I deleted this program but ulead still does not execute.
I'm not at all saying there is any causality re the super program, just making the observation that ulead would no longer work after that program was used.

Any other thoughts?

Mcurtin,

Try doing a complete clean uninstall of VS10+. Instructions are provided here:

http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 5773#55773

So far I've had no problems with Super conflcting with any of my VS programs. I don't know why this would have caused this problem for you..

I had my computer tech friend unistall evrything, delete all traces of it from my computer as described and still it will not execute. He's as stumped as I am.

He is going to pop by next week to check out my computer in person and also do some upgrades. Hopefully he'll get this figured out for me.

I would ask him to install more RAM while he is at it, you will find that 256MB is rather on the lean side when you're running Windows XP.

Thanks again for the assistance and tips. I will be having a large boost of RAM as well as a much beeter video card.

You guys have been very helpful and it's good to know there is somewhere to turn to for help that doesn't make beginners feel silly for asking basic questions.
