? mpeg2 encoded files crash DMF5

Post by Gabbon »

Hi,

I am trying to figure out how to use video that I encode with Cinema Craft Encoder for DVD authoring.

So far I have had trouble (DMF encounters an error) with my files when encoded as program streams. When encoded as elementary streams (I also left out the audio on importing) it seems to handle the files just fine.

So I guess my question is whether I should expect DMF to consistently handle lots of mpeg2 files (I have lots of short clips) encoded as program streams with the CCE encoder or not. If so, the only thing I can see that might have gone wrong is the DV capture--maybe I have some corrupt video. DMF seems to handle the DV just fine though when imported as DV. It only has trouble when I pre-encode.

Thanks.

Your MPEGs are somehow corrupted. (You can't always tell by playing the file.)

I've sometimes had MPEGs become corrupted during editing (joing MPEGs with transitions, etc.). The most common symptom of a corrupt MPEG is "lip-sync" problems when the file is re-coded or re-multiplexed. Crashing is a less frequent symptom.

So, my suggestion is to do all of your editing in DV and encode the final "movie" to MPEG once, as the last step before DVD burning.

Thanks for replies.

So I understand that if my mpegs are not corrupted Ulead should handle them just fine...

Trouble is, I did the mpeg encoding as the last step, and did no further work on them. My process was quite straight forward, capture, then straight encode (no editing necessary). I did notice, however, that the capture process dropped some frames on a few odd segments. I just figured that this would not corrupt the video (bad assumption?)

If this is the main problem, would avi check utilities clear up the trouble. The reason I ask is because I have literally thousands of video clips, and some of the DVD's I wish to burn contain hundreds. It would be a real hasstle to check or alter each one individually.

A second question that baffles me is why Ulead would handle the elementary streams, but not the program streams.

Thanks
