Save as... or Export to PDF?

Post by vbPhil »

Much of what I need revolves around the preparation of book covers.

The book printers all seem to require Press-ready files in High Resolution PDF.

I cannot find any reference to PDF in the help files, nor in this forum.

Have I made a giant (incorrect) assumption, that PI 12 should be capable of generating PDF output?

Any suggestions?

You may be correct in assuming that it should be capable : ), but it's not. However, you might be able to find a free or inexpensive application that will allow you to print to a PDF file from PI. Since I use Adobe Acrobat Pro, I can't comment on if the low budget programs that are out there will allow you to create a PDF for "Press" like full blown Acrobat will. Good luck!

Thanks....

But I guess my underlying question remains.

The PI will just about write any other kind of file. Why not PDF?

Perhaps you need to pop an entry into
The PhotoImpact Suggestion Box

My wife has a saying "If you don't ask you don't get" plus there is no harm in asking.

My guess would be that Adobe gets royalties from their code. It would probably raise the price of PI just a bit. Hopefully, since Corel already includes a very powerfull set of PDF tools in CorelDraw and WordPerfect, they will allow this to migrate over to PI. Thats my hope anyway, and also provided Corel gets that deep into the workings PI : )

You can submit your idea to Ulead via http://www.ulead.com/pi/feedback.htm

However, I think some PDF printer driver (like the one included in Adobe Acrobat Pro or the PDF995) should be a workaround by now.
