We are not in the business of fixing PC systems. Since it works on so many machines, including mine, there must be something with your machine. What, you ask? Well???

Have a read of this

If you want to know how I cured a similar problem, see http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=15223

However, if you really want us to help you fix the problem, you need to tell us what you are doing. See http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=8961 for a guideline on how to do this (you should have read this already!)

However, the causes of crashes are many. Could be faulty, inadequate or inadapted hardware (frequent), poorly selected chipsets (very frequent), corrupt video files (frequent), incompatibility with other software running, especially Internet stuff (very frequent), corrupt Windows files (less frequent), other video installations (moderately frequent), mobile phones in proximity (less frequent), faulty connectors (frequent) etc. So you can readily understand that, until you tell us more, beyond the cure I gave above (on a dedicated video computer), no one here is able to help you because you have to help us first, to try and find the cause of your problems. Heinz has demonstrated his system is rock-solid. Mine is, as well (other than, for a short time, the cured problem I outlined in the above link). The ball is now firmly in your court.

Cheers for the replies guys, the problem i'm having is when cuting video clips then overlapping clips & applying effects it usualy crashes after abit like say 30 seconds to a minute. MS8 just disappears then i have to start all over again, i keep saving every so often cos' sometimes i loose the file which i was working on, goes away & cant open it, just recently i formated my hard disk then reinstalled xp pro with sp2 but didnt make much difference, i have a high spec machine 3.2 ghz with 3 gig ram, other programs i have installed are premiere pro 1.5 which has never let me down, Cinemacraft encoder SP2, & DVD Maestro (the dogs bollocks). Dont use internet on this pc.
Maybe its because i have so many 3rd party effect plugins like adorage, boris factory etc that MS8 can't handle or maybe it doesnt like Sony PD150,DSR200 material. 1 more thing i keep on trying even if i get 30 crashes in a minute & eventually get what i need from MS8 but why so many crashes in my case, Please help

If you seriously want to do things right, start again from scratch. Save all data you want to save then do a full reformat of all your partitions (keeping C: to last). Do a fresh Windows install and then all your hardware drivers and set it up. Then install MSP8 and SP1 and check that it works correctly. If it doesn't, then it means either you are trying to work with a corrupt file or you have a hardware problem. Then install your other apps one by one and check MSP works fine. If it doesn't, you then know where the conflict lies.

Apart from corrupt or unsuitable files, faulty RAM is a common cause of crashes, but I would point out that you haven't given us a clue about what you are doing, what type of files you are working with etc. We are not clairvoyant. Read and act on http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=8961

just pull off one of your rams, turn it 2 gigs ram or add 1 gig more and turn it 4 gigs ram. 3 is not correct. because rams work dual.. then use the windows for "best performans" (right click to my computer/options/ advanced/ performans/configuration) that's all for msp. I have solved this problem in this way...

What you say applies only to relatively recent systems with dual memory handling. However, in all likelihood, he bought the machine with 2 x 512 Mb sticks and then added 2 x 1024 Mb sticks, so what then? Of course, doing a deep RAM test will reveal the all-too-common fault of a faulty RAM bit, which can cause problems, such as described.
