DVR file formats

Post by bm »

Hello,

What file formats do the digital video recorders create? I'd like to edit the disks it creates with VS and make compilations like I currently do with VHS tapes. It seems it would be easier to record to a DVR and edit the files instead of recording to VHS then capturing the video from the tape to the computer then editing it.

I'd like to be able to combine what I'd have on multiple disks onto a single disk.

I don't have a DVR yet so any help on what I should look for that will work with VS would be great!!

Thanks!!

Digital Video Recorder?

This could be one of three formats that I can think of.
1. A Hard Drive TV recorder such as a Sky+ box or Tito PVR
2. A DVD Recorder which records onto DVD discs.
3. A Digital Camcorder that also records onto small DVD discs.

For the first type. I have a Sky+ box and have to PLAY the video as though it was a live broadcast and RECORD it on my computer using appropriate software. I suspected you do the same with a TITO.

For types 2 & 3 above you have to import the VOB files from the DVD disc.
The procedure can be found here:

Thanks for the reply.

I was talking about the "2. A DVD Recorder which records onto DVD discs. " Like the Sony, Panasonic etc units like VCR's.

So these units only create discs with the Video_TS and VOB files just like a DVD?

I can then import vob files from multiple DVD's and make a compiliation?

Great procedure file!! Thanks!!
