Audio lost when play clips in "project"

Post by mcurtin »

Am newbie to this ulead product and editing in general...tried to search the forums but found no direct answer. Also can't locate help file for trial ulead10+...SO

here's my problem:

I imported 3 .mov clips from my Canon S50 digital camera; I edited them briefly and played them individually as clips and the sound was fine, BUT
when I go to play the whole project (the 3 clips in sequence), all I hear is white noise.

I looked for places to check the properties of the sound that accompanied these short movie clips but with no success.

There is probably an obvious answer to this problem...I apologize for my early ignorance. Thanks for help

The complete VS10 manual can be downloaded from http://www.ulead.com/vs/documents.htm

As to the properties of the files, in VS, right click on one of the files either in the library pane or in the timeline and copy down its properties here.

Until we get those properties, it is almost impossible to suggest what might be happening...

File props for .mov file with wierd "audio" on pro

Thanks for the prompt reply and the link to the manual.
Again, simply stated the issue is: when I play the clips as clips the sound is normal; when I play as "Project" there is just loud white noise.
Thank you

It just would have it that I had my Kodak P880 out today taking photos of my granddaughter. I also captured some short video using it. So I loaded a couple of clips into VS10+ to see if I would have the same issue. Kodak uses the *.mov format for video, it's just a little different then Cannon.

Like you I could play them in clip mode, and had no problems with the audio. However playing in Project mode, since the *.mov format is highly compressed it would play real jerky, and then I noticed a "tapping" sound. While I didn't have the white noise, the audio was crappy at best.

Try setting in Preferences your playback to High Quality, then for your project properties set it to either AVI or MPEG2 or MPEG1. Then it will render your project prior to playing it back. Then see if the white noise is still there. I think that it will not be, and is just one of those things that preview is not good at.

i am also new to this product and having the same problem. in addition to audio being very choppy, video is too -- even on small projects. wondering if it's maybe because my memory isn't enough? i have 1.2 mhz processor and 640mb ram. any thoughts?

Have any of you tried converting your .mov files with the freeware conversion program SUPER to, say, mpeg-2 or AVI, to see what happens to the audio in the process? Super can be downloaded at

When you posted Ken, no I had not. However since you asked I needed to find out..

I did do one conversion using Super. First this commercial..:) All the touting I have done for Super I really didn't have much need to use it, until now. This little freebie app is amazing.

Ok to test this I took a 4 sec clip and converted from the *.mov (Kodak) which uses MJPEG, to MPEG2. It done the conversion in about 5 secs. The result was great. The fps on the MOV file was 30fps, it converted to the 29.97fps MPEG2 without a glitch. I'll try it on my longer clips, which are only about 1 minute long.

Then I'll see what happens when I try to add them to the actual video I took at the time. I ran back in the house, to retrieve my camcorder, and shot about 45mins more..

Thanks for bringing that up Ken..:)

Trying vidoman's suggestions

Post by mcurtin »

Tried changing preferences and properties as vidoman suggested.
Playing after rendering --> no change; still white noise
Will try the .mov convert route and report back.

Did posting the file properties as requested help at all?
Thanks,
MJC

Yes it always helps to post as much info as possible. Sometimes it may not seem relevant, but most of the time is.

Note ref my previous post

I tried playing the converted MPEG2 file in WMP, and it did not play properly. It started playing then WMP froze. It would play in WinDVD though. I have played several MPEG2 clips in WMP without problems, so it probably something to due with how the clip was encoded when it was converted.

Ron -- you will see in Super you have a choice of a couple of mpeg-2 codecs. Try the other one...

Continuing saga re no audio playing .mov as project

Post by mcurtin »

I downloaded the "Super" program, converted the .mov to mpg and then went to run ulead. The program will no longer execute. I reinstalled (chose "repair" option)...still won't run. Uninstalled everything via windows delete prgrams. Reinstalled all new drivers for direct x, wmp, etc, etc as ulead recommends, then redownloaded the trial, reinstalled and still the program will not execute from anywhere (desktop shortcut, "programs", start menu, etc.
As far as I know no other changes were made to my computer with the exception of downloading the Super program. I deleted this program but ulead still does not execute.
I'm not at all saying there is any causality re the super program, just making the observation that ulead would no longer work after that program was used.

Any thoughts?
Can you point me to any other threads with this problem?
Should I start a new topic?
Thanks
