Problem just copying

Post by cyberdog »

Hi Everyone,
I have just purchased an ADVC55 by Canopus to use with VideoStudio v10 so that I can transfer videos (some bought and some I have recorded) onto DVD.
After capturing the video to my computer I then proceed to copy it to DVD without any modifying at all. The problem is I keep getting told “convert step got some problems”.
Can anyone help please?
Thanks

There is no doubt that the Canopus ADVC55 is an excellent capture device. While it is not totally clear, I am assuming you are capturing from VHS videotapes and these are being hardware converted in the Canopus to DV format for transmission to your computer.

I am further assuming that you are then simply opening the VS burning screen (Share > Create Disc > DVD), inserting your captured DV files, and proceeding from there. And this is where the problem arises. We do not recommend inserting DV format files into the burning list. They should first be converted to DVD-compatible mpeg-2: Share > Create Video File > DVD (not/not mpeg-2). Doing it your way is a very demanding process on the computer, and some computers just don't have sufficient resources to do it well or at all. This is why we recommend a step-by-step approach.

Once you have converted them, then you can go to Share > Create Disc > DVD, and insert your new mpeg-2s, create a menu if you like, and burn.

Can you also right click on the DVD-compliant mpeg-2 file you created and post the Properties of it here please.

When you opened the burning module, did you click on the Options cogwheel icon down in the bottom left, and make sure that the box 'Do not convert compliant mpeg files' was checked?

I can see some problem here. I would suggest to render a DVD compliant mpeg2 file first and then, in a separate project, burn that to disk.
