Cannot create file! Is it the size

Post by e_yagod »

I have repeatedly tried creating DVD files for a large video which I captured using AverMedia EZMAKER and Ulead VideoStudioV7. I keep getting the brief and uninformative message: Cannot create file, The required hard drive space is 18G and there is enough available space. Is there some inherent problem with files of this size?

Well, that's not going to fit on a DVD as-is.

Ulead seems to need about double the DVD space as temporary hard drive storage. So, you might need 9Gb of free hard-drive space to burn a single layer DVD. If you have more than one hard drive, you may need configure Video Studio to use the "correct" drive for temporary storage.

What's the playing time? What's the bitrate of your original file? It's very likely that your file can't be compressed enough to fit on a DVD. If you are using LPCM audio (uncompressed), the audio may be taking-up all of the space, leaving no room for video! (I believe VS7 can only make single-layer DVDs.)

There is also a possibility that there's something wrong with your original video. I've had bad MPEG files that play back OK but cause problems when re-coded or re-multiplexed.
