I want to create music video

Post by André Giroux »

Hello,
Can MSP output a music Video in surround sound and stereo on the same video once on dvd.

Can you complete a full project from a to z ready for dvd with MSP or is there other software I should be looking at for a professional results.

I tried the trial version but its limitations have me guessing if this is what I'm really looking for or what more do I need to obtain a high quality music video.
Thank you.

Is it necessary to have 2 versions? I ask this in ignorance as I thought that if the player could not output 5.1 or the user specified in the menu that he wanted 2.0, then 5.1 was automatically translated to 2.0.

The trial version is useless for 5.1 evaluation. The full version with SP1 is very usable for 5.1.

ok, so do this mean you need a 5.1 and stereo version for the same dvd or the player will decode this automaticly once in 5.1.

Thanks

I can't be 100% positive but I think a 5.1 version will play fine in 2.0. I have many commercial DVDs in 5.1 only and the sound seems OK on my 2.0 system.

Of course, provided you don't want very sophisticated menu structures. The authoring module is essentially a version of Movie Factory which caters for 5.1 and chapter marking from the editor. It has items like first play, one main menu per clip and chapter menus per main menu, moving menus and buttons, menu templates but you cannot have flexible playlist control, subtitles, multiple sound tracks etc.

Ulead DVD Workshop 2 offers the max flexibility for all these features and is compatible with the chapter points generated in MSP8. However, it is not the youngest software and will not natively generate 16:9 menus, although there are workarounds. Nor will it encode 5.1 audio into mpg, but it will allow DVD-compatible mpg files encoded in MSP8 with 5.1 audio to pass through, so this is not a real issue.

I would suggest you try the authoring inbuilt to MSP8 first, simply because it is more modern. If you find there is some severe limitation, then you can consider WS2.

Another option would be to edit and generate your MPEG2s with 5.1 audio using MSP8, and then author the DVD using a separate application with more features than the DVD Movie Factory version that's included with MSP. One extremely powerful authoring program (but which cannot generate AC3 or 5.1 by itself) is Mediachance's DVDLab -- it complements MSP8 very nicely.

Your help is greatly appreciated. I'll give MSP8 a shot. Thank you very much for your help.
